• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, I am currently trying to teach some coworkers how to program the Motorola MCD5000 desk sets and was wondering if there was an easy way to reset the desk set to factory settings so they can practice programming the device and following the SOP. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all, does anyone know how to reset to factory default MCD5000 and RGU from Motorola Solutions? I've been reading the manuals but I can not find something about that.

I'd also be interested in the procedure - I haven't seen much in official documentation and MSI support wasn't much use.

1. Configure laptop to 10.0.0.2, subnet 255.255.0.0
2. Connect cable to red internal port (IP address 10.0.0.1)
3. See if you can ping from laptop to MCD5000 internal IP 10.0.0.1
4. Open Putty (ssh), connect to 10.0.0.1
5. Login username 'tech' and default password: ABCD123456efgh*
6. If you are at a prompt "Services" then, (if not at Services, proceed to step 10)
7. (With CAPSLOCK on) Press (left) CTRL and B, release, press 8, then select number 18 from the list (Factory Reset) (if 18 is not there only up to 17 this means this is an old MCD5000 that doesn't have the factory reset option)
8. You should see 3 listed items.
9. Then select Factory reset off the MCD "Service" tab.
10. If you are at "Main," type ?, then press enter.
11. Select option 18, Factory Reset, and follow the prompts to complete the reset.

If you don't see the factory reset option, your Deskset or RGU needs a firmware update to the latest version
