• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

If you have a computer or a raspberry pi set up with the tools necessary, you can hook up the radio to you computer with the normal programming cable and flash the user database directly into the radio with the "sudo make flashdb" command.

This is not a bin file you flash with the normal firmware update program.
Yup I'm retarded cause I still don't understand what database to download and how to upload it to the radio.

If you can post exact links on where to download the database from the Internet and then how to WRITE to radio. I'd greatly appreciate it.

I can not turn on promiscuous mode. It just stays disabled. Second, if you can't load the database on the radio, how do you get rid of the green information box?

With promiscious mode. I was under the impression that it would decode both TS 1 and 2 at the same time. But if I am on the NJ Turbo Tri State which is Time Slot 2 it only picks up TS2. Am I doing something wrong?

Alex. I have a version from a few months ago. One that added MD380 Tools. IS there any new changes in the ones you posted the link for?

Mostly refinements and bugs were fixed. A recent change is that the users.csv popup is no longer a green box and is now full screen, they also added a mic bar when transmitting in digital mode but that was added a while ago so you probably already have it. you can check the reported issues (both open and closed) here https://github.com/travisgoodspeed/md380tools/issues and see if it's worthwhile for you to update. I'm curious, what MD380Tools Ver. are you using?

For those of you who don't want to compile the experimental firmware, you can always find the latest build here https://pd0zry.nl/posts/md380-pre-build-firmware/ and use the official updater to flash the firmware. Note: S13.020 is the GPS version

Those firmware are they the hacked ones, or are they the OEM?
If they are the hacked ones which hacked version is it?
I have tried the Saar edition.

Those are builds of the experimental firmware which is developed by Travis Goodspeed. There is only one version of the hacked firmware. The SAAR edition appears to be based on the main GitHub version which someone has compiled and made their own modifications too (i.e. custom bootscreen, etc.). Basically if you want the latest version of the experimental/hacked firmware you can compile it yourself with the source code available on GitHub or you can download the firmware which PD0ZRY compiles and provides for you on his site.

Has anyone tried/succeeded in flashing this to the Zastone D900 (supposedly an MD380 clone)

I have a TYT MD-380 with version D013.020 firmware, but it doesn't have GPS. It seems that in the firmware directory, they only support the older firmware, or the S13.020 version that doesn't seem to work in my radio. Is there a firmware version (experimental) for the MD-380 Firmware D013.020 with OUT GPS? Thanks in advance.

Yes, as stated in the readme (https://github.com/travisgoodspeed/md380tools/blob/master/README.md) all variants of the no-gps md-380, both old and new vocoder, are supported. The no-gps experimental firmware is based on D013.020

So I'm going to be "that guy" and ask...how do you program the radio to basically receive all DMR traffic on a given frequency?

with MD380tools there is a promiscuous mode that allows such

I had it installed in my vhf md380 but didnt like it

if I was on say talk group 3150 it would automatically hear TG 3148

to me that was annoying as heck
