* Is this MDC?
* Does the MDC have Intenet access [I hear they have trouble a lot &
want the dispatcher to long them off.
* I hear something called 'AFRO" is this the same as first due?

If anyone [police/fire or anyother] has a MDC, can they send me a picture via e-mail [think my e-mail is on here. Thanks, I pray that MONTGOMERY COUNTY as a hole has no MDC/CAD problems.

I have A FRS radio but stay off of ch 7 because I do not know if the county use it or not, it is 462.7125 & I do not know if, wait I guess not because 7A & 7B are in the 153 & 154 range so my radio may be in the 7 - 800 Mhz. If anyone can tell me please let me know. I do not talk on ch 7 @ all or even go down on it, there are some business channels like somewhere between 3&4 are being used by this private school & ch ? [do not know because every time I go to my scanner it goes away :( ] seems to be used by the STATE HIGHWAY PEOPLE.

Thanks

& you all be safe on the roads going emergency or on non emergency calls.

Got to go now.

:)

Your FRS radio won't transmit on any public safety system. All channels on FRS are available for civilian use. Don't worry :)

10-4 & thanks, the reason I asked is because I heard some talk on the scanner that showed up as a FRS channel.

Scanners do pickup FRS frequencies. But they are only used by civilians. Police DON'T have anything to do with it. If a business is using FRS, they probably aren't going to be to happy. Any body else could go on that freq, and legally talk. They're batter of with a business radio with their own liscensed freq.

Wonder if they do go on them so to not let their boss hear them, the STATE ROADS people used them & they can cuss. but thanks for telling me. I can see your point now, because they are doing business & do not want to get anyone interfering with them. Also business radios seem to get out better then private once. It seems like really all radios seem to get out good, but I do not think I will hear FIRE/RESCUE [except for 7A & 7B]. They seem to go to 7C a lot on calls. It seems like ECC has it like this

7 A - Z

& I guess when they go to [forgot the #] say 13A, then it must be another agency like say

A FIRE/RESCUE
B POLICE

& so on, BTW what is that icon you using?

I can see people having 2 scanners, 1 for VHS & 1 for the computer radios. I would not like it if I worked for the police or fire/rescue & there was a real bad emergency.

I can just see them typing [chatting] to each other;

'C A N Y O U S E N D A M A N P O W E R P L E A S E"

I saw their new walkie talkies [yellow] & it looks like they have a computer screen added to the radio.

I can see you [or me] now.

A call comes out on 7 A & they go to 7C or G, then we go to this other scanner to watch them chat to each other.
:?

But I bet they like the extra channels & I also hear how they can 'patch' you in to another channel too, also the police & fire units can talk to each other too.

They just had a bad fire/rescue call an hour ago & had units from;

18
19
25
8
5
Rescue 2

& when co 5 & 19 come to any calls near here, I can see & hear them passing.

I am tempted to ask them if they call for man power or need help & it is
close by, if I can go help. But then again it may just be for them for safety reasons so if someone got hurt, we non emergency people would not get in to trouble. But I would love to volunteer with them, but can't due to my size [4 ft 9 inches] & my 'borderline' disability.

I got that icon from another site, can't remember where though. I think I have it saved on my hard drive. I can go look and post it if you want.

Thanks, but naw on it. I just wondered what it was as in the MDC scnners. I would not mind seeing the MDC hand held ones, the scanners to me look like all you do is watch it like TV [ :p ]

That's actually a Minitor pager that the volunteer firefighters use. It's not a scanner. What's an MDC scanner? Never heard of that. Do you mean Mobile Data Computer? If so, there's no way to pick them up.

Thought so & I sent it without thinking, I met to add a MDC walkie talkie. They do have scanners [but all they do is do like hear, as in desply text + look ugly - never seen one but it is on the front of this site] I hear Montgomery say;

"Statuse yourself out of unit"

Those things must be really :p , from what I am hearing;

"Can you log me off my MDC is not working" - someone in unit
"You got to clar the call first" - dispatcher

So in this way I think the MDC must be sort of like these web sites were people can log on & off [hope they have anti-virus & firewall protection?]

I wonder if I went to one of the fire/rescue people if they would show me, womder if anyone [ECC or someone who works for the police & fire/rescue] are on here?

I think when this site first started [first got on here by ECC supervisor], someone from ECC started it off [the MARYLAND talk group]. Bit when they switched servers I have not seen anyone from ECC on here that will answer questions. Bit they are too busy anyway & may be on here after they are done for the day/night. I remember the first ECC & went on a tour with my dad when we both were in REACT. It is kind of sad that what I once had, I can have no more :(

Are you talking abut Dallas Lipp? He's an Lt. for MFRS, and has generously provided lots of info. As far as I know the MDC run off of a data stream. I'm not sure though if it works like the net. I was always kinda curious myself. I do know that there are FFs here who volunteer in other jurisdictions, and a few LEOs. So folks speak up.

Spert20906,

I think the call you are referring to was a small kitchen fire in Wheaton. Stations 21,18,25,5 and Resque2. I believe Tower 19 was dispatched then put in service, I could be wrong.
When Montgomery County dispatches a fire they now automatically switch to 7 Gulf talk group for operations. If they get more than one incident they will use another talk group.
Typically when two units want to talk to each other they will go to 7 Charlie.
I asked D. Lipp once before about a tour of ECC and at the time they were just moving into there new center and were not planing on doing tours period. I remember many of time going to the old dispatch center when it was down in a bunker. Nice place.

Spert20906,

Yes, did they do an opps when you were there as in turned off the card thing that went [somewhere]?

[There was a track they put cards on & I think it went from the call takers to the dispatch & the supervisor accidentally turned it off, he was like 'opps']

I do not know what the call was about, I had left when tower 19 came up the street. But what was Gaithersburg doing there? I guess any unit that is close to a call can go to it, like if I was in Gaithersburg & a call came out in that area then I would go to that call.

I remember you asking D. Lipp & his reply too, have not seen him on here & @ first I thought ECC ran this site because I was invited by ECC to be on here.

I would love to tell & thank all @ ECC for what they are doing, they us to have an e-mail there that the site person set up. But have not heard anything from them.

BTW: What station or stations are you close too?

I am closet too 5, but rescue2 & station 19 & 18 come to any calls around here.

Also I like your icon, reminds me of the lights in front of the engines.

Also did you know that rescue2 will be moving in 2 years?

From;

Bob

Spert20906,

I don't think you heard Station 8 down here. Engine 281 was in Wheaton yesterday evening on a Hazmat call.
Yes, I remember the old card system and the push button tone system.
We must be close to each other, I live over by Oakland Terrace Elementary.

That was it, I do think I heard the 281 & just forgot to ad the 2

You must ne in co 11 first due area were I am in 5 first due, I see a lot of fire rescue come down Gorgia Ave.

BTW I us to live in MONTGOMERY VILLAGE [CO 8 first due], it is so strange how every fire or rescue station is. I mean like rescue 2 is or must be the only one in this area that is all rescue were the other stations have botrh engines & rescue equipment.

Have a great day!

Bob
