A few years ago when Maryland Fire Network was active on their two way one of the MDE trucks programmed that frequency in their radio, which ultimately lead to an interesting and long conversation one day between MDE and Chopper 13 (Roy Taylor) at the site of a spill from a ship in the harbor, Dominoes Sugar I think.

Now THATS interoperability!

This spill you are talking about was my case. Not long before this I had met with Jim with MFN and explained to him that from time to time I would be able to give him info for his paging service. We reprogrammed one of the radios in my truck and up and running we were. When working an oil spill in open water one of the best places to get a view of what you are dealing with comes from the air. Roy is also a friend of MFN when they were running. I came on the air when I saw him overhead but he was not monittoring the channel. Someone else from MFN helped get him on the channel. I think by paging him. He was very helpful on this case in to ways./ 1 direct contact via voice, 2 I keep a 5 inch black and white TV on my truck and was able to see what he saw with his live shots. I would speak to him and he would use what I needed in the upcoming live shot for the station. In addition to him on this case we had a man go to the BCPD headquarters and meet Foxtrot and they assisted with overflights as well.

I have had 2 occasions iun my 14 years with the Department to do overflights.
1 was the tug virsus container ship in the C&D canal a few years ago. This flight was provided by MSP Trooper 1

2 was an investigtation of a spill that started in PA. and was headed for the Susquhanna River. Did an overflight thanks to once again to the guys at MSP and Trooper 1

MDE, you might want to put an aviation radio in your truck... just about all the helos in Baltimore: news, police, medivac guard/monitor/coordinate on a certain aviation channel.

Hmmmmm, I remember the government (?) of Germany in 1939 acting in a similar manner as MDE officials!

It only takes one person like this to throw a good thread off topic. Way to go. Please dont even bother asking him what he means. Its probably just a waste of time...... Just look at the location he says he is from....????.....

How in the world did a thread about Maryland MDE hazmat trucks go from talking about the trucks to talking about Germany in 1939. Its amazing to see how people can get so far off topic.....

If your referring to me postin that message you are wrong. MDEGuy knows I have no quarems against MDE since they keep us busy and employed. I think N1508J wears tinfoil on his head and runs around naked screaming the sky is falling.

No I'm not referring to you at all. I'm referring to the reason you gave for not being able to offer any details.

This may have been posted earlier but I don't feel like rereading the stuff in the beginning of the post -

Where does the MDE quarter their response gear? From the pictures I see a Baltimore County engine and the Montgomery Park in the background, but that doesn't mean a thing.

Thanks!

Sorry to come into this thread late in the game but are there any good frequencies that MDE uses that I can add to the Scanner or Two-Way? I have added 155.2650, Spill Control, but I don't hear much. There isn't much on the database either. Of course Western MD isn't as busy I guess as down state. Well we do have a big CSX rail yard in Cumberland with lots of Methyl-Ethyl Bad Stuff coming through. Any frequency additions would be great.
Man I Love this site!!!!!!!!

Oh...awesome pics...Thanks!!

just a few things:

1, Firebox, thanks again and great pics. I will let you know about the other rigs.

2, 155.2650, Spill Control. I spoke to all of the guys on the team and noone has any idea where this freq came from. We do not have or operate radios on this freq. This is from guys that have been there since the begining.

3, For those that want it, a little MDE Emergency Response history. We are a team of 6 responders and 1 chief. We cover the entire state 24 -7. This is done Monday - Friday out of our office in Baltimore at the old Montgomery Wards Building. Nights weekends and Holidays the trucks go home with us and we respond from where ever we are. MDE responds to about 600 - 700 calls a year. The radios, well the system that is in the trucks are old and in the process of being up graded. We have all of the fire departments in the state, as well as MSP, Marine channels, CSX, and fire departments that border Maryland, in the console done on 3 radios. A low band a high band and a vhf. I am working on getting good pics of the console to post here soon. We have the ability to Rx and Tx on most of the freqs that we have. We are currently in the process of having programmed the new 800mhz portables that will allow us to talk direct to just about every jurisdiction in the state that is on 800mhz. Paperwork and lawyers are making this a long process. We also maintain scanners in the trucks as well as CB's. We have a few freqs that we operate on for inner team comms. I am not at liberty to give these freqs out. We retain these to keep comms as private as possible. I understand that there are ways that they can be obtained but our policy is to protect them as best we can. The are not on a any tower and for the most part are truck to truck, or hip to hip. In addition each member of the team is issued a Nextel and Cingular phone and a pager that they are required to keep with them at all times.

Hope this helps even thought I was not able to give new freqs for those that wanted them
