In Kent co. at this time the MDTs are used for sending locations with the map if needed. It shows the info such as hydrants etc. It is also being used for private info in the EMS. It can also be used for sending reports for the EMS. At this time I dont see it being used for much more than this other than in a command situation where info on chemicals etc. are needed.

As pinetree stated there are alot of reasons for them to be there, Hazmat info, seen management, accountability, on and on, still wont replace the radio transmissions.....Hoser

I dont know bout that hoser.... When i lived in arizona we had MDT's in our fire trucks and it pretty much replaced the radio for traffic. On the MDT you could hit enroute, onscene, avaialble, at the station. Yes you will still ehre your radio traffic for fires and stuff, you just wouldent be able to here if the unit is responding.

Its possible but I cant see a computer being in command, ya it would probably work out good in a metro environment better, were you often have a greater response. I cant see it doing away with voice comms in most of the country for quite awhile.........Hoser

you wouldnt have to worry about that in delaware the chief in charge of a scene needs to hear what trucks are responding and when they are responding so he or she knows what they will have to work with, and firepolice need to hear when the trucks are responding over the radio so they know when the truck is coming.
