I'm new to scanners period. I have always wanted to get one just so I can listen to whats going on around me. I just found this site by accident and absolutly love the fact that I can listen to my local police, fire and ems when somethings going on. My only thing is that I know that 10 codes are different form place to place that much I have figured out by spending countless hours searching the web using every know why I could think of to try and find the meaning the codes on my local police scanner that I listen to thanks to RR. If anyone could tell me where I could find the meanings to Nez Perce County Lewiston Id; Asotin County Clarkston Washington. As these two towns are just across the river from each other there is alot of cooperation with the two counties especially with their ems response. I know everyone wants to know the meanings to this but I truely have tried everything on the web to see if I could find this information before coming here. I have this as my link to my community considering that I can't get out most of the time to see whats going on. Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much

time

yes they are almost unique. states, countys, and cities in them could all be different SO.
write down the codes (and signals if needed) and try to figure it out.this will take TIME
some may overlap but then some will be different and remember a person or a radio can be signal 7 (dead)
also some places are doing away with the 10 codes so you might hear plain english and then a slip-up 10 code(its hard for the old guys to stop using them)
