The E-3C is a AWAcs plane which is guess what? A boeing 707 with a radome on top then there's the Navy's version the E-2C hawkeye, and yes the EC-135 was the looking glass which have been converted over to JSTARS.

By the way, There checking all the cranes at the Woodrow Wilson Bridge construction site to see if the chopper had struck one of them. There is a height restriction right now because of the construction work.

I just got around to noticing the newspaper story on this crash where they mentioned this was the second fatal crash in a week for this company. They lost one in Mississippi last week that clipped a tree and killed the pilot. Hard to tell at this point if it was pilot error or mechanical malfunction. This was the 11th crash of medevac helicopters in the past year, killing 34 people. It almost makes you want to walk to the hospital and take your chances rather than fly.

An important thing to remember is that 2 people lost their lives. One an experienced Paramedic that had spent most of her adult life helping other people, and was well respected amongst her peers as an member of an volunteer rescue squad in Va.

May our prayers and thoughts go out to them, their families, and loved ones.

Nah I was not at work that night. It was my shift and I would have beeen the Fairfax Watch Center Supervisor. But I'll be off on S/L until end of the month. Would have been an intresting incident to work. They said it was busy. Very challenging for so many different comm centers to be involved.

I understand the confusion. The aircraft in question was a 2004 Eurocopter EC-135, here it is when new:[/img]

When this helicopter crashed back in January, one of the responding units that I wasn't aware of at the time was the Laurel MD Volunteer Rescue Squad. Participating from this organization were Chiefs 49 and 49B, Squad 49, Dive Unit 49 and Boats 49A and 49B. After the operation, squad members posted a series of pictures from the operation. This page has over 80 thumbnail pictures that are each clickable to produce larger images that cover the scope of their work that night and the next morning. Several of the images show the scene in relation to the bridge and the work cranes that some speculated were the cause of the crash.

Cause of the crash was determined to be vortexes from jet turbulence. Got that from a pilot.

Yeah don't forget that that area is the river route for Reagan National airport.
