well jeez, that explains what I heard and couldn't see take off last night. I was out scrapping ice off the driveway and something huge took off but couldn't see anything due to cloud coverage.
That's what that aircraft was talking about. He was talking about something on the YIP ramp that normally isn't there. It never occurred to me that it could be cargo aircraft bypassing the problem at the border. Thanks for the heads up Robert. If anyone cares, Willow Run is getting many cargo flights ranging from Mexican to Canadian to U.S. Cargo companies, due to the border being closed between the U.S. and Canada. Some interesting radio transmissions have been heard between tower and aircraft.

I'm glad you were able to hear them. I haven't heard FWA A-10's in years. They usually go to the HILLTOP / 12 MILE MOA west of Fort Wayne. They also use the Atterbury Range south of Indy. Thanks for the heads up- barely getting them from my desk in Kalamazoo.
I am using a Uniden BC125AT connected to a 1/4 VHF antenna mounted up in the rafters above my office. We are at one of the highest points in Kalamazoo County, and lucky for me, a great area to receive distant traffic. The BC125AT lives hidden under my desk, and is controlled via SCAN125 software and routed to a powered speaker on my desk. That being said, They were barely opening squelch and I could JUST hear them. I'm guessing my home setup with an external discone would have done them just fine. I am able to hear some traffic on the Grayling range frequencies from home.I'm glad you were able to hear them. I haven't heard FWA A-10's in years. I didn't know that HERSEY MOA was still active. When Battle Creek had the A-10's they used it all the time. Back then 385.900 was the TAC freq for the MOA. Looks like 293.550 is the new TAC freq.
Just curious, what type of radio & antenna are you using on your desk?
Chuck
Nice set up you have. I hope they make more trips north. I need to get off my lazy butt this year & run a new cable to my Radio Shack Discone on the roof. That cable has to be 20 to 30 years old. I still get good reception, but not as far as I used to be able to hear. That antenna is hooked up to my PRO-2052. That's the one that was able to hear them on A/A. I tried that second freq on another radio hooked to a Sirio 1300 Discone hanging in my room upstairs, & no joy.I am using a Uniden BC125AT connected to a 1/4 VHF antenna mounted up in the rafters above my office. I live in Battle Creek. Used to love seeing the A-10's all the time.
Really just getting into Milair scanning. Been a Public safety scanner for years, but didn't listen to the milair stuff when it was right in my backyard. *doh*
