Hi Everyone,

For those of you that use this software, what type of controller/joystick do you use? I have a Logitech Dual Action but I am having some trouble using it with this software. Thanks.

Just got that Sim X for Christmas.. Huge software game but is fun!
I have an old Logitech Wingman Extreme that I use.
Works ok but is way to sensitive on the stick..
Need something better myself..

yeah, that is kind of what I am running into with my controller. It is to sensitive and I haven't been able to use this controller for ground control. I can fly okay with the Logitech Dual Action.

I haven't upgraded my computer yet to handle the new FSX but I use a Logitec Wingman Force 3D I've had for years for FS9. I also have a Flightsim Yoke but it takes up too much room on my desk and is a pain to put on and take off sometimes.

It can be quite sensitive but if you go into the controller options you can set the sensitivity and "dead zones" for the joystick. It's what I do.

I tried recently FSX, great !

I personnaly use a Saitek Cyborg Evo. Nice joystick you can set up physically to your hand. 3 axis, throttle, lot's of buttons everywhere, also a "mushroom" for views and most of all, very precise, and great return to 0 position !
Also, the software provides setup for specific games, and FS has one profile.

The stick is rated as great, but fragile for very frequent users ... time will tell ! ;-)

I'm looking for a computer flight based simulator program to help with flying lessons. Piper or Cessna. Any recommendations? Are there wheels vs. sticks available with peddles?

Lucky folks... I'm still stick with my old FS 2000. LOL. I love it though. The Cessna's are nice, but you'll just never beat the Concorde, or the Lear 45. :D

Flight Simulator from 2000 on up would do good. I would suggest though FS 2004 or FSX at least.

Also they do sell rudder pedals and Yokes for flight sim. They are a little pricey direct from the manufactor below but if you google around you can find them cheaper sometimes.

Yokes: http://www.chproducts.com/retail/y_fsyusb.html
Pedals: http://www.chproducts.com/retail/p_pedals_usb.html

I had to get a new computer just to run Flight Sim X!

For controlling I used a Cyborg 3D Gold and it seems to work pretty good. Can control the helicopter with some ease ( still a n00b )

I hate to bring this up...but what does types of controllers for a computer game...even an aviation one...have to do with monitoring aircraft communications? Might be a thread better suited for the tavern. :)

I use a Game Elements Recoil, which is a third party knock off of an X-box Controller. It works pretty well for the ultra-light.

In real life, I am a TERRIBLE pilot. But then, I'm pretty lousy at Flight Simulator X, too. At least with this controller, I remember it's all only a game.

I don't fly FS-X but I occasionally fly my old 98 copy. I use my stick to fly Falcon 4.0 mods. I use a Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS.

I've been thinking of getting FS-X or seeing if there's something new in the sim world. Even with the mods F-4 is starting to show it's age as far as correct implementation of the newest precision GPS weapons, buddy lasing, new generation targeting pods, etc goes. But then that means building a new high speed gaming machine to run new stuff......

If you hate to bring it up, then why did you? If you do not like the topic, don't participate in the conversation. I noticed your screen name is musicman. What does that have to do with communications, maybe you should be on a music discussion forum. See how silly it gets when we ask these types of questions. Just let the thread go. Many people have a lot of helpful insight into the question raised here and it is about Aircraft.

Yikes. That was disturbing.

Remember how in Flight Simulator 98, Microsoft actually encouraged you to fly between the twin towers?

And the whole "FS is training terrorists" thing made people go crazy. There was one guy who went to buy FS at a store and they wouldn't give it to him and they actually called the cops and had them find the guy at his house fearing he was going to be using FS to train to crash planes. Ends up he was buying it for his son as his son was really into planes and flying.

I have both FS8 and FSX, and have use the CH Pedals and yoke and love them both. The yoke gives so many options and I think I will get the throttle quadarant next. Makes a great IFR trainer too, I like having the option of being able to fly approaches other than an ILS or visual.
