I know that Des Moines is starting to utilize the MICS system for interoperability among various counties and agencies. I know that there is channels such as VTac, VLaw, VMed, and VFire along with U--- and 8---. The flyer that was posted here speaks of it, however I have noticed that there is missing information and frequencies. Is there more information on this MICS system out there other than the des moines pd flyer they published? What I am wondering is what are all the Tac, Law, Fire and Med frequencies and is there a system to who uses what, example VTac28 or VMed 14. Also i know that polk county is switching to a new radio system in the next month or so. They are going to a EDACs system from what I understand, has any information been released on this?

EDIT:

As I have been reprogramming my scanner I have also noticed that there are some frequencies that are not listed in the database that I know exist. So far I have found these frequencies.

154.7700
154.4750
155.8350 - I believe this is IPD Car to Car
458.3500
155.8500

These frequencies are collected from this list here: http://www.sawyerhome.net/cannedham/ham_ia_central_general_freqs.html

The MICS system only utilizes the frequencies outlined in the flier. There are quite a few other LAW/MED/FIRE frequencies defined by the feds, as you said, but the only ones actually part of the repeated/linked system are on that sheet.

For more information on the APCO/NPSTC ANS 1.104.1-2010 spec, I suggest downloading the PDF from their site and checking it out. It has all the channels listed, their names and the FCC regs that go with them. It is my understanding that this spec is similar to the railroad frequency assignment, in that if you are a legitimate user according to the FCC Rules and Regulations, you are allowed to use these frequencies. There may be some kind of licensing beyond that, but so far it seems they are just allowing the usage to be regulated by Part 90.

Polk county FIRE is going to the EDACS system very soon, the entire county will be transitioning to a P25 simulcast system shortly after that. This will include all agencies on the current RACOM system in Polk county and adding a couple more. Look for more information on this new system to be revealed as it comes online in the near future.

If you're in the Des Moines area, try 453.2125 and 453.4625. I heard voice traffic on both of these every now and then. 155.7525, not so much, but was active for VIP security in the past. Happy listening!
