Middlesex County, has applied to the FCC to erect a seven-site, 700 MHz digitally trunked radio system. Based on the fact that all of the frequency pairs are used at each site, this will more than likely be a simulcast system. You may view each application on the FCC Web site:

I'm wondering now if the current 800 MHz EDACS system will be transitioned over to a P25 system to work in conjunction with this 700 MHz TRS? Or will 700 MHz be EDACS ProVoice or Open Sky mode? I also heard that there will be a lot more Public Safety agencies asked to join this system for true inter-ops. Time will tell; and looks like the rumors I heard are now true...

The 700MHz system will be a Harris P25IP (like Wayne). Very good possibility it will be a TDMA system. It will completely replace the 800MHz system

My inside source at the county told me that there was no current plans to encrypt the sheriff or park police after the conversion, so those with the right scanners at the time will finally be able to hear them again...

Edit - I've got to check on the capabilities of the 7200 portables, as that was told to me as what the users in the field would have to be using to make it through the migration. If they can't be flashed to TDMA, then this very well may be only a Phase-I system.

Right now, none that would cover this system if deployed as a true "Phase-II" system.

The PSR-800 will do Motorola's X2-TDMA (like what is being used in Prince George's County, MD & Loudon County, VA).

The first Motorola 7.11 Phase-II systems won't ship until Q4-2011, and the new NJ statewide 700MHz system will be one of the first.

NJ is going for a statewide system will some of the the p25 systems in the state already? will be merged into this one. and is this TRS a standalone or will it be incopeed into the NJ TRS down the line. I bet the state and the Big M and Harris will sit down and talk it out b/c i don't know if a harris TRS and Mot TRS can be merged together can they? i dont know the answer to that.

So if I read this correctly, ALL County agencies (Parks, Roads, Highways/Bridges, Sheriff's, Emergency Management, HazMat, Fire Academy, etc.) will migrate from the current 800 MHz EDACS analog/ProVoice equipment down to the new 700 P25 TRS? I thought the County may have followed what the State of DE is doing and go 700 MHz for Public Safety and 800 MHz for other State/Local Services. Anyone know what kind of time frame this will encompass as far as implementation goes? I know there was some talk of finalizing the TDMA P25 Phase 2 standards not too long ago. Is the standard finalized yet (I could not seem to locate it on the P25.org site) and if it is, then I would think Middlesex County is going to Phase 2 upon deployment. I see that the roll-out will start at least in Quarter 4 of 2011 at the earliest; just wondering if anyone else heard any other news that they can share.

And I just bought a ProVoice radio not too long ago for my collection. Looks like I should have listened to the wise one who told me otherwise... :)

And a new 700 MHz NJ Statewide TRS?? That's another can of worms ready to investigate... :)

Once the Middlesex County 700 system is built, it will replace the 800 system & that will then be retired.

The NJDOT actually had quite a number of 700MHz licenses that they turned over to the state to get this system started. I met my friend from /\/\ two weeks ago and saw his UHF-R2/700-800 APX7000. He had 6 types of encryption flashed on the MACE board - I feel inadequate (I only have 4!).

The NJDOT will be the agency that field-tests the new system, and I believe he said that the NJSP will go over when complete.

So unless one of the scanner company's gets on the ball we will be deaf to the state soon we will have nothing to listen to

Why are they doing this? What's wrong with the current system? It seems underutilized to me.

To my eyes the system is on the verge of overloading. Remember that they have only five voice channels available, and you may not be seeing/hearing digital traffic (I see it on Unitrunker). Plus they're inviting municipal users onto the system (a worthy initiative, IMHO) and EDACS' days are numbered so it's good to be planning an upgrade and expansion path.

I hope there is refreshed consideration for regionalized dispatch along with this system roll-out.

I have DES-XL, DES-OFB, AES, & ADP. His also has DVP-XL & the new AES-GCS format (the new AES offshoot initially developed by Harris that encrypts the OTAR handshake as well).
