Hello All,
Just a question... or more so looking for information if anyone has any.

Over the past couple weeks on MTAC1 & MTAC3 in Middlesex County, I have heard MRC doing radio testing (both voice and some form of tone). Just wondering if anyone knows what they are testing and/or if this is related to a potential change to DMR for the County Fire Departments?

I know the North Middlesex Fire Stations (Parkhill and Ailsa Craig Stations) have swapped over to XPR Radios from the last open house they had, and from talking to them then it sounded like the county wanted to upgrade to DMR for various reasons. However, we know these things can take time when building a fleet of radios, not to mention the cost of everything.

Thanks for any information!

They are just doing annual maintenance and service at the different repeater sites as far as I've heard.

As for the radios, that's what pretty much everyone is using now if they aren't P25 (my department switched to 7550s almost 10 years ago now). If you are buying Motorola there really isn't a lower tier radio that would make sense buying (even if you are just analog). The 7550's etc actually aren't even offered by Moto anymore and have been discontinued (their replacement would be the R7 series).

And as far as upgrading the county to DMR I haven't heard of any movement on that front. There was some discussion of it back before Covid, but I haven't heard anything since.
