• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Mount the radio on top of the dash and the low profile antenna on a magnet mount stuck to the radio case! Plenty of power in the cigarette lighter power port.

I was thinking of the guy that mounted the antenna in the engine compartment to be "low profile".

Actual ERP in the single digits will have little impact on other users. "Wife won't let me drill a hole in her Jeep" comes to mind...

I know this will annoy the krap out of a lot of people.
It's an interesting use of the radio service. I can see the benefits. Not sure I agree with the need for 50 watts and such frequent updates, but I'm interested to see what sort of product they release.
It sounds like the FCC is just dying to turn GMRS into another noise pit like MURS, with endless bleeps, bloops, and buzzes. One more reason I will not buy any radios from Midland and I encourage others to do likewise. Funny, the two biggest junk radio companies, B-Tech and now Midland, are the ones jumping on the bandwagon to pollute FRS/GMRS.

The FCC gave the public an option to comment on the waiver. No one did. So they granted the waiver. If you are passionate about the radio services, it's a real good idea to keep your eye on the FCC releases so you can file appropriate comments.

I actually tried...several times. Their website would never work. I suppose the state of their website is consistent with their operating practices.

Until the FCC is not part of the financial gain branch of the federal government, this will never change and things will just suck like a cheap ho. They should just go ahead and state that the FCC is part of the IRS and only exists to make money for the government.

I pretty much agree. However, this waiver didn't involve any money.

If you want to talk about money, take a look at the spectrum auctions. Federal Cash Cow.
