Pretty noisy. Sure that was Kenya and not Brasil? (much closer!) You could tell it wasn't Portuguese lang?

I am on the fence after nulling and isolating the hell out of this because now I hear what sounds like Spanish music. I got it all choked down on the R75 by the bed as I am typing this. Yup I hear Spanish music. So I guess I probably am wrong-this is probably Brazil...but hey still a great catch since it's only 5000 watts. Yeah the noise-I do all my catches in AM and null as much as I can in that mode for the challenge of it.

Let's see. Kenya is GMT + 3 and sunrise is, what ... 6am? So, if you heard them around 0300z then you'd be right at grayline, so it's possible you were hearing them and then Brasil took over.

More likely Brazil - R Clube do Para or R Acreana. Kenya hasn't been reported on the NASWA list in a long time, and I think they left SW due to transmitter failure. I think TWR is looking to build a relay down there, though.

You might have heard an advertisement using those 3 letters - they're not even their callsign. Sometimes LA stations will ID right before a news broadcast (usually at the top of the hour) or at the 1/2 hour, during a programming shift. I've heard one or two Brazilians do it on the 15 min mark, so you really need to listen carefully. 73 Mike

OKayyyyy ... If Kenya hasn't been logged since 1999 (NASWA Shortwave Loggings Database), then why are they still being listed on the database (S H O R T W A V E S T U F F) as still active?

It's only been 11 years.

Just a quick search shows now new loggings from any Kenya shortwave station since 2005. Guess not surprising considering the political scene over there these days.

Also, where can mere mortals access the "NASWA list"?

Obviously no one has removed the Kenyan entries from any of the source material listings (PTSW, HFCC, etc.). It does bear some research to validate, of course. If it's true - and I think it is - then a note to Dan asking him to drop the Kenyan listings is in order 73 Mike

Kenya 4885khz is marked as inactive on the new spread sheet along with some Armed Forces Network frequencies.

Speaking of Kenya, I just saw a show on TV (I forget which channel) that followed some of the rebel forces in Kenya. That country is on the brink of civil war.
