Anyone listening to any military or Coast Guard stuff in the Houston area ? I'm out past Rosenberg, and haven't picked up on anything from Ellington Field yet, anybody else ?? Tried catching some USCG while in Galveston last week, nothing there either.

I'm in Texas City and Galveston. I have a whole load of USCG freqs programmed into my 396 however I don't have them set to scan very often. I've found that I get pretty bad reception from the "base" no matter where I am and can only pick up the CG helo if I can see it.

Last two times I was on the TX coast I just punched the Marine Preset on my Pro91 and I heard all kinds of stuff.

Ist time I monitored heavy seas and a dude that feel off a fishing boat. (YIKES)! This was wandering about some groovy complex in Port Aransas. All from USCG...

Next time I was on a Cruise Line out of Galveston. Heard and watched the Pilot pick us up and depart, monitored all kinds of groovy stuuf on the way to Cancun and back... (Interesting drilling rig, oil rig, some French sub work off a rig, all on the Standard Marine Band.)

Caught New Orleans Weather on the Weather band...

It's been a year or two since I did this, but I would advise you to check the standard freqs
and see what you get.

Jon
