MILCOM in Austin TX?

Hey guys, I live in Austin so I have Lackland AFB to my south and Ft.Hood to my north. I scan the mil com freqs but I have yet to hear anything. Anyone live in or close to Austin and monitor mil com? Each base is 70 or so miles in either direction so would this be too far to hear anything even with a great antenna? Any help in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks!

Search 138-144 and 148-150.7 for air to air comms in the MOAs outside of San Antonio. You should be able to monitor a good bit of traffic from the aircraft out of Randolph AFB and Kelly AFB.

You should be able to hear alot of military aircraft in your area.
Start with these from airnav.com

Kelly AFB
AirNav: KSKF - Lackland Air Force Base (Kelly Field Annex)

Randolph AFB
AirNav: KRND - Randolph Air Force Base

Bergstrom
AirNav: KAUS - Austin-Bergstrom International Airport

scroll down to "airport communications" and select frequencies from the list.
good ones are "Command Post" frequencies

and add 311.0 and 321.0 for other known command post freqs.

What kind of antenna are you using? How high is it and what kind of coax are you using? A good antenna setup is always needed when trying to listen to things.
