Apparently, the military ISR "experiment" of very low-power radios for intra-squad communication was not very successful. The IC-4008M radios are no longer available from ICOM and there is no other vendor. The IC-4008M radios used by CAP are not being replaced once they are no longer serviceable.

The low power was a bad idea operationally.

The normal IC-4008A FRS radios work pretty well I have a set of three. The AA alkaline battery life is good and the materials have held up well over time. I have other FRS radios where the rubber parts have crumbled or oozed off due to bad vulcanization.

Has anyone ever heard anything on the intrasquad frequencies?, its in the database, I had them in my scanner for years and heard nothing.

Very low power radios - intended only for short-distance ops. You'd almost need to be within yelling distance to monitor any traffic from these things. Also not very commonly used... either by frequency of use (rarely) or number of locations (limited).
