I'm curious about the phasing of the two elements. Was it done with 75 ohm coax used a phase offset jumper between them or some other method?

Questions on Steve's Sat Com antenna

I have played with the assembly a bit. If you are required to adhere to the 5" spacing requirement between director elements, cutting the 1/2" PVC pieces to only 4 1/2 " as proposed in the article will not provide the structural strength needed for the overall boom. I am leaning toward a 5" long 1/2 PVC piece. This allows for more of it to go into the connecting pieces and better boom rigidity. If one continues with this line of construction, then the overall director length of 32" maybe difficult to achieve.

Some of Steve's initial pictures show 6 directors. The actual construction photos show 7. Any reason for the additional director? I also had questions on the matching network. Is it a RG-6 type network similar to what PRC Guy proposed on his X wing project or something else. I agree, any measurements on this? I do want to complete it and see how it works.

I also seem to remember something about using some 1" PVC, but I see nothing in the construction list of materials, only 1/2 " and 3". Is thin wall 3" PVC okay, or do we have to go to 3" ABS?

Sat Com antenna update request

Based on the information we know right now, assuming that Part IV of Steve's article is not forthcoming, has anyone actually completed an antenna that we can determine the missing dimensions and cable lengths? I am interested in what he used for the phasing harness to get the right hand circular polarization at 260 MHz, and how he packed it in the PVC pipe.

He could have legitimately had issues that prevented him from finishing the article, but this really does sound kinda troll-ish.
He does three out of the four articles and leaves us hanging for several years waiting for the "grand finale", no photographs of the homemade version were ever shown. I don't know.......
I hope he is okay, but this was just too much of a tease!!!

The best homebrew SAT antenna I have seen cost less then $10.00 to build.
It's been field tested in A-stan and Iraq.
This antenna will fit in a sandwich bag.

I wonder what happened to SteveDouglass? It was a fine start to the article.

Most of the traffic is encrypted and probably 99.9%. However, there are pirates on the satellites every day and an occasional clear transmission from supply aircraft going to Antarctica plus the very rare screw up where someone thought they were encrypted but were not.

For the military monitor enthusiast receiving signals from space is one of the more exciting facets of the hobby.

You might Google search for frequency lists from Larry Van Horne or others to see whats out there.

For me this is a hole lot better and challenging than just sitting around listing to police calls all day and night MilSat hobby is for the very serious scanner enthusiastic.....

Not that I follow it, but he posted to his blog 10 days ago: Black Horizon

You could always comment on his latest blog post and ask "hey, where's article #4?!" :D
