Anyone know what the latest status is with this site? I started feeding the site a few years back and I was actually on the site just a month ago. Today I go there and get 404. I know there has been some bad blood in the past with one of the owners some time ago but I thought the site was under new mgmt now. Are they gone for good? I'm still running the MilAirComms1090 program and I can see my data going out but the response back from the server just seems to be some HTML code. Am I just shouting into a black hole? Is the server gone? I would think if it was the app would not be able to maintain a connection.

Anyway, I'm still having fun with it. It was nice to think I was contributing something. Thanks for any info.

Thanks for the info. So I guess I should just watch their Twitter feed and watch that website for when they re-launch. Meanwhile I guess the data is going 'somewhere'.

I know a few years back there were allegations that the guy that ran the site was scamming people. I never saw any indication of it. The site had some good info on it. But then I heard he was hauled off to prison and someone else took it over. I don't know. too much drama. I didn't realize they had a twitter acct. I went and followed it so when they fire the new site up I'll know about it.

yeah so that doesn't really tell me much.

other than there is a good chance he died this year. i suspect the fees haven't been paid for the most recent billing cycle for the webhosting service and hence the 404.

i sent the guy an email right after it went dark, but his reply was the same as always....nothing. i offered to help financially even and still no response. that's why i figure he died.

i wish there was some way we could go in and salvage the thing.

or perhaps some enterprising RR reader could make a duplicate style site of their own

*wink winK* nudge nudge say no more???

RR is great but it has a lot of shortcomings that MilAirComms filled quite nicely. I wish there had been a mirror site set up.

Oh, I thought the tweet said that the site had changed its name and when I clicked on the link in the tweet it took me to a page that said a new site was being setup and to check back.

Yeah, I never thought about the site going away so I never scraped it. I guess that leaves setting up a whole new site.

from the moment the new site popped up (having just gotten fond of the original like a month before it went bye-bye) i was thinking about this possibility, but beyond having no technical aptitude to mirror it or whatever, its hard planning for the demise, when the creature has just been born, and its progenitor being such a sociable soul made any sort of inquiries rather pointless.

the hex search/callsign/freq searches were all great use to me, the other stuff like the artccs layout was optimum over others for my purposes at least, not to mention something of a "cloud storage" for some of my freq finds and the sort (as my little books and lists are virtually pointless to make if you ca't keep up with them).

my main attraction to it was the low bar/no bar of entry to data submission. obviously there are lots of situations where that wouldn't work, like radioreference, due to abuse or inexperience/incompetence, but this being a rather small group of enthusiasts, kept it to where i never noted any.

with MilCom, radioreference is just not optimum due to the difference in the nature of how it all works. its fleeting, non-standard in many cases, and being able to verify who said what to whom or why is the rare exception. the moderator/reviewer process is just not viable for MilComms, and while i certainly am fond of RadioReference, it simply isn't set up to work with that sort of thing except in ongoing, localized "MilCom in such and such area" type threads.

I'm so depressed, I might go watch TV....

couple of notes, someone, not me, did have enough brains to copy it on archive.org as recently as Feb, but obviously its very limited in what you can do besides look at articles

and i just noticed the site now says:
"Future home of something quite cool.

If you're the site owner, log in to launch this site

If you are a visitor, check back soon."

which is different, but probably represents no change
