To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello. I am looking at getting a Minitor 5 and I know by looking at videos of the software there’s more to it than a Minitor 4. So I am just wondering if there is anyone on here that is willing to share a Minitor 5 code plug with me, so I can have a look at one and see it all. So when I get one, I will know what to do.
So if someone on here can share one, that will be appreciated.
Thanks

I have seen a couple videos on the Minitor 5.

and just another question on the Minitor 5 software is there somewhere to click on the engineering mode, just like the Minitor 4 software so you can go into it and say change the band split on it, because you can do that with the Minitor 4 software. Do I have to read one to get the engineering mode to show up or because I don’t see it.

thanks

Ok thanks and this other program called Resource Hacker. Is this a safe program to download and install, just want to see before I do, because if it’s going to affect my computer in any way then not going to install it. Because this is the program it says to use to make this modification

let me know

thanks

Why do you want to change the band split. Just buy the pager in the split you need.

Only real useful function for engineering mode is to make one channel pager a two channel.

If I decide to, and want to use it for our ambulance paging channel instead of for Fire. So I can change it to that.

yes you can do that to make it a One Channel instead of 2.

so was just asking if that program is safe and ok to install on my computer. So I can install it and also do that change as well if I want to make it a One Channel instead of 2. So let me know if it’s ok and safe to install that program I mentioned.

thanks

You really can’t change the band split, especially if you’re thinking of a wide change or VHF to UHF. It’s hardware dependent. Engineering mode doesn’t stretch like that. Much more sensible to just get the pager in the right band split, especially since they’re EOL and reasonably cheap on the used market now.

And to answer your other question.... Yes Resource Hacker is a perfectly safe program to install. It's been around for years and doesn't contain viruses. Don't let the word 'hacker' scare you off.

Ok thanks. Just wanted to make sure it was safe and didn’t want to install it and it does something.

and if I follow the instructions from that bat labs link and using that program, then the engineering mode option should show up.

and when I mean change the band split, I mean keeping it vhf but changing it from the range of say: 151-158.9999 to 143-150.9999. That is what I want to use the engineering mode for, so I can change it from the Fire Dept range to say Ambulance pager range.

Yep that's all there is to it. Just read those instructions very carefully to make sure you're changing the right thing.

Still cant do that!! Different electronic components are present between different bands.

Oh k. Because I have a Minitor 4 and I changed it in the engineering mode in the software and my pager works fine, no issues, when I changed the band split to like I mentioned in my last post. So it can be done and works.

According to the Motorola data sheet for the Minitor V (5) pager (see attached Motorola data sheet) there were 4 different VHF models available that covered the entire 143-174 MHz frequency range: Standard Single Channel (model # A03KMS7238_A), Standard Dual Channel (model # A03KMS7239_A), Stored Voice Single Channel (model # A03KMS9238_A) and Stored Voice Dual Channel (model # A03KMS9239_A).

That being said the data sheet also specifies that the Maximum Frequency Separation applicable to the dual channel Minitor V models referenced above is 8 MHz for 143-166.9975 MHz and 7 MHz for 167-173.9975 MHz.

Ok will see if it actually does the band splits like I mentioned in my other previous post, after I install that program and and get the engineering mode put on and when I get my pager. If not, if it only covers the FD frequency ranges in the 150 MHz range and doesn’t go lower into the 149 range then that’s ok, but will see.

thanks
