On my Hp1 I am only scanning 28 channels. Yet it seems when it stops on a channel, the transmission is already in progress. It doesn't seem as sensitive as my RS Pro 2021. Is this just the nature of the beast, or do i have something wrong in the settings?

VIPER P25 and conventional 154.000 - 159.000. Just scanning 28 total channels. it just seems by the time it cycles around, i have missed the beginning of some transmissions.

How many Viper sites?

If it's more than 2 or 3 that's the issue.

I'm not really clear on what your complaint is. Is it a slow scanning cycle? How slow is it? The HP1 should blast through 28 conventional channels in less than a half second, but since Viper is included I would expect your scan cycle to be more like 1 to 2 seconds. Of course that means you're going to sometimes miss the first second or two of transmissions. That is normal. If it stops on something, obviously it's going to miss things on other channels while it's stopped. That is all to be expected, so I assume you're getting something other than that. Are you scanning a custom Favorites List, or are you scanning the database using Zip code or some other location method? If you're scanning a Favorite List, how do you have Viper set up? Are you only scanning one or two of the closest sites, or are you scanning all of them? That's a huge system, it works best to pare systems like that down to just the nearest sites and relevant talkgroups you're interested in. As for your conventional channels, are you using PL tones on some or all of them? They have the potential to slow the scan cycle down. Does the radio pause sometimes on certain conventional frequencies? If so, try removing the PL tone from it, or bump up the squelch a notch. Keep trying things, eventually something is bound to help.

Just monitoring 2 VIPER sites with 9 TGID . Squelch set at 2 bars.
Also what would be the recommended delay setting?

If a transmission is only one one site, there could be a 2 second delay until it returns to the site that is carrying the transmission.

Yes, the scanner can blow through 28 channels in no time, but it takes 1-2 seconds to evaluate each control channel.

If you want to speed up scanning, only program the control channels. That way you will only be scanning up to 8 channels total for both sites.

Scanning 2 sites. Each site has 1 control and 1 alternate control freq. So wouldn't that be 4? How did you arrive at 8?

I like to use a 5-second delay for most things, but that's just me. It does slow down my scan cycle, but I don't care about that. I prefer to not miss replys. It used to be that on most every scanner model a 2-second delay was the only option other than No delay. Two seconds is a good compromise that catches most replys but maintains a reasonably fast scan cycle. I would try 2 seconds delay for everything if you aren't already. What also could be slowing things down for you is the Hold Time. Set that to Zero for your Viper system if it isn't already. I think Uniden should call it Dwell time instead of Hold time. That would be more descriptive IMO. Zero Hold time just means the scanner moves on immediately after checking the control channel for activity on any of your entered talk groups. If you enter a 5 second Hold time the scanner will park itself on the control channel for 5 seconds and listen for activity. After the Hold time expires it moves on if nothing is heard.

Hold time. It's in there. I don't have access to Sentinel at the moment, but it should be under system settings somewhere, or possibly under the site settings.

Of course, a delay setting is available in Sentinel for the HP-1!!!

Of course, to get to it, you must engage the "Favorite List Editor" (Gold Star with little pencil).

Really? I stand corrected then, thanks. They've included that feature in their other scanners going back to at least 2005. Why would they leave it out of the HP series? Seems dopey.

I said up to 8. There can be a primary and up to 3 alternates per site. If your system only has 1 alternate, that would be 4.

Of course, either is much better than 28...
