So I did some looking at data base and looks like Grand County is VHF conventional for the most part but also see some stuff is patched to the UCA. I guess my question is should I setup my scanner for UCA or VHF ? I'll only be in the area a few days for a trip to the GC but like to listen. Assume in the NPS the VHF is my best bet but wanted to see if any local users had more specific.

VHF is more active and is mostly patched to UCA. Traffic on other trunked systems in Moab is minimal. You can also pick up NPS on VHF, which is a mix of analog and P25. Ideally you get a scanner that does both!

Thanks have a 436 for scanning on the trip. Also run an APX8500 that has some NPS stuff already but guess I need to verify for out there. I use the scanner more as its quick and simple to add or delete stuff. Dont like filling up the APX with stuff for one trip.

Looks like VHF is the way to go for my trip.

The 436 is what I use and is ideal for scanning multiple trunked systems, conventional lists, and band scans all at the same time. No need to choose!
