Mobile Antenna Permanent Installation

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone had any pictures of the actual drilling and connecting process for permanentely mounting an antenna on their vehicle. Do you just drill the hole and screw the antenna into the mount and thats how it stays or does the mount actually connect to the sheetmetal by itself somehow?

For the standard NMO mount, be sure the hole is 3/4" - no more, no less...

I just did mine yesterday. It's a lot easier than I thought it would be. Just make sure you put some silicone sealent on the O ring and you should be fine.

A couple of useful tips:
1) be sure to gather up as many of the shavings as possible - otherwise you'l find little rust spots wherever they end up after a few weeks.
2) drop the headliner an put something under the hole (like a rag or towel) to catch whatever might fall thru, not only is it neater, but the stuff will be hot and can leave a melt or burn mark in the headliner if you just drill through.
3) it also helps if you can have someone hold the base from beneath so it stays centered in the hole and in one position while you tighten the disk from the top.
4) when you seat the antenna onto the base, be real careful not to cross thread it, or it will be difficult to correct - the threads on some bases and antennas are kinda soft sometimes.

Also - nice job with the pix fireSAR, but for clarity, I would point out that pix 3 & 4 are in reversed order
