Good ducting to the Southern Tier this morning so I was able to get the Horseheads NL. No additions for the Troy Pa sites. I have about a dozen new TGs, apparently for school bus systems, just in that area. Since the TG numbers are assigned sequentially and are up to at least 89, there are probably about 50 new TGs not in the RRDB. I can only get voice reception to possibly ID the TGs in the Rochester area.

New Site 110 - Interlaken WQNT442 150.815 CC. Showed up on Site 34 & 35 NLs. I have a very weak signal on 150.815 so waiting to see if it builds up enough to confirm Site # and RAN to submit.

I noticed a new voice channel (151.7900, CH 41432) for the Pulaski site (RAN 48). While monitoring the CC for Pulaski, I witnessed two users (Fulton Taxi and the Oswego City SD Buses) using this frequency. With the increased activity of the buses and the commercial activity, I assumed there must be another frequency or two for the users of this site. I submitted the new voice channel to RR.

k2hz - Do you track the channel numbers that DSDPlus displays?

The channel numbers are not relevant for scanning purposes. DSD+ translates the number to actual frequency. Uniden x36 and SDS scanners are DFA - track directly from the CC data. I found that you must leave the LCN blank or 0 when programming the scanner or it will not track at all.

I am attempting to identify a weak CC signal on 153.5825 too weak to decode the Site/RAN. It could be Fulton or Troupsburg but area NLs show both sites on their regular CC frequencies. I also can not yet verify 150.815 for Interlaken. It faded after I first heard it and is mostly unheard now.

The Tully site Control Channel is now on 153.6200. I wonder why this site's CC moves around so often?

The 153.5825 CC turned out to be Fulton and it went back to its usual 150.845 almost as soon as I was able to confirm it. Many trunked systems rotate the control channel on a regular basis to equalize equipment use but that does not seem to be the case with NXDN. It could change due to maintenance activity or, with system growth and frequency reuse, they may be experimenting with minimizing co-channel interference. Wide area coverage sites like Manlius, Tully, Niles, Dansville and Attica seem to often shift the CC.

These school buses are driving me crazy. When I think I have it ID'd to a particular district they mention stuff that makes me wonder if it is BOCES or a contractor covering more than one district. I have 5 new TGs in my area I am working on and think I have 2 ID'd but one of those means a previous ID is wrong. I now have seen activity from 16 TGs that are not in the DB.

Is TG 23 on your list? In the database it says "Corning - Painted Post School District" but I heard a conversation between bus and dispatcher this morning and the bus was definitely in Brockport based on the street names.

What street names did you get? That was a fairly definite ID from last year.

First it was "Caleb's Trail". There's one in Brockport and one near Spencerport, but at least according to Google Maps no road with that name anywhere near Corning or Painted Post. Then it was "... and you'll run right into Mac Trail" which pinpointed it as Brockport.

I guess another possibility is that my BCD996P2 was displaying the wrong TGID.

Either way, I don't think it was a Brockport School District bus, since they are listed as a user of the Saianet DMR system!

The unit aliases I am seeing on TG23 today, besides the bus numbers, are: Harris Base 1, Base 6 and Portable 6. Last year it seemed to definitely be Corning-Painted Post.

What I am working on now is that last year TG 15 strongly appeared to be Livonia although the addresses heard were in the southern part of the district that could be Dansville or Springwater. This year I am hearing TG72 with Big Tree Rd and what definitely is the combined Livonia Middle/High School campus with directions about which driveway and building entrance to use. But they also talk about runs to BOCES and Lima Christian School. It could be they transport their district pupils to those facilities. And I have not yet heard TG15 this year. TG 61 seems to be Williamson but I want to hear more to confirm.

I am watching TG23 since something may have changed since it was initially observed. It seems to be regularly heard on Site 32 South Bristol vs only rarely in the past, probably if a unit happened to be affiliated.

It may be a coincidence, but the Caleb's/Mac Trail addresses heard are right next door to Site74, Brockport, which is at 170 West Ave. I can't associate the "Harris Base 1" alias with any schools in the area. Birnie Bus Service apparently provides school bus service in the Corning/Painted Post area so that may have been what I heard last year on TG23. They operate in many locations in Central and Southern NY but not in the Rochester area that I am aware of.

I think I confirmed that TG23 is Corning-Painted Post school buses as listed. CPP contracts with Birney and others for bus service. The Town of Lindley is served by Leland Harris Bus Co so that explains the "Harris Base" and the other "Base #" dispatchers are probably Birney and the other carriers.

Don't know about the Brockport addresses observed the other day but possibly one of bus companies that serves CPP had a unit up in that area for some reason.

I'll keep listening. The traffic was from the Bristol site, but again, the addresses were definitely Brockport. Like I said, Brockport is using Saianet, so a private company would be a likely candidate.

What site were you hearing C-PP buses on?

On Bristol - it tends to get traffic from much of the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes. From the CPP District web site - they use 4 contractors for their bus service: Birnie, Harris, Smith and Titus and the District apparently has a few vehicles of their own.

All area schools now open so a lot of bus activity this morning. I submitted updates and corrections. TG15 is apparently Dansville and Livonia is TG72. Williamson is TG61. New school bus TGs 18 and 73 active and I am attempting to identify the districts.

There are a lot of new TGs active showing up on sites in the Steuben and Allegany County area that I can't track due to co-channel interference on the voice channels. (44, 47, 50, 58, 69, 70, 71, 74, 89)

Lots of activity here as well. I am hearing APW, Sandy Creek, Oswego City SD, and Hannibal buses. I changed my DSDPlus threshold and edited the Groups file so I can focus on one of my unknown talk groups , TG 48. RR has TG 48 labeled as "school bus", but no district is given. Hopefully I can discern the location based on the audio cues.

Two possibilities in your area that were LTR-NET users: Central Valley (Illion) and South Lewis (Turin).

Picked up a couple sound bites and TG's from Troy this AM. From Location 3 Armenia Mountain:

TG 18 School Bus (in DB)
TG 00-0044 which should convert to 44 "Elementary Office to bus 90"

I have this site programmed as type D and have now further refined to 4800. And voice channel 154.4900 shows a RAN 39, which should convert to decimal 57.
2020-09-15 05:47:33 : TGID-000012 RId-0002B7 VC- 154.490000 htg=1,wc=1,pri=0 NXDN VC RAN:39

I am still getting them on analog. Last season when Horseheads School district migrated to DMR it took them about a month.
