• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Test for noise between the two options.

Power port/cigar lighter isn’t a dedicated circuit, and if it isn’t as quiet as to the Batt, you know what to do. (CB ain’t a VHF/UHF radio).

The game is the other guys radio rig: You can’t hear the guy had the information you needed due to being lazy — he’s lost in the hash these less-sophisticated CB radios can’t filter — well, it ain’t as if the angels didn’t try.

Play-by-Play (3-dead amongst fires)

Weather went from acceptably-nice to near-instant snow & fog. No one changed their unacceptable-risk normal bad driving habits when everything became as bad as it can be (snow slush plus fog). 10:30 am. I’m in a hurry.

As those trucks crashed there “should” have been AM-19 warnings from some of them (and I don’t think that happened as it should), but one needs:

1). I.D. of road
2). Direction of travel.
3). Mile Marker
— Lanes affected
4). Problem

Repeat.

“Westbound Interstate 81 at the 227-yardstick, both lanes closed to ongoing MASSIVE pile-up”.

You” only hear that a half-mile out you are already inside the problem.

Big wrecks like these — ongoing — it’s hard to get a clear picture of what’s out ahead. Adrenaline is running and guys are drowning each other out.

Hey, but ya could be a Utube star for three days.
Just spend the radio money on a GoPro.

The Uniden Beartracker 885 hybrid CB/Scanner would have been the ideal radio after that crash scenario. (Both services sound very good together or separately across a KES-5).

Given an install worthy of permanent use to maximize reliability & performance. Power, radio mount, and best-quality antenna systems (two needed).

Paired with a Uniden BC-906w Wireless Speaker/Mic one could have moved his own and himself hundreds of feet away from the ongoing crash and — potentially — had both CB and available Emergency Services channels in his shirt pocket.

Can program audio priority (radio menu) that speaker prioritizes one versus the other while listening to both.

— A separate small mini-USB adaptor lithium charger to accompany one as hours may go past. (Mic is not power-hungry, but why chance it?)

A quality radio systems installation is a vehicle UPGRADE.
