Very good for the price. The D-109 is even better with a good speaker that really shines with the D-109's basic mp3 player.
Yes. I don’t know what the OP’s budget is, but the D-109 is a true steal. You get a lot for about $40.

I had a look at the D-109:

I have the D-109WB, and “sweet spot” hits the nail on the head. The Qodosen is more sensitive, but costs twice as much, plus the price of a battery. And I like having the weather band.

That radio is a steel at that price. It has a very good DSP IC chip
in it. Great choice for someone just starting out. When we first
started out we had nothing like that, it was a Science Fair Globe
Patrol shortwave radio. It would pick up Moscow, Russia in
English back in the day no problem.

100% Total agreement! I also had the Science Fair Globe Patrol radio, to get ANYTHING you needed a huge dipole antenna and a good ground. Back then the Globe Patrol sold for $29.95 if I remember correctly, factoring for inflation...

... and no, that kit is not worth $165.56. For that kind of money you can get a Eton Elite Executive!

... so yeah, a real good deal. Because I'm sure it receives a whole lot better than that Globe Patrol as well.

You know this bring up another topic, for which I'll start a new thread not to corrupt this one over the best bang for the buck radios.
