They are pretty busy and relatively easy to monitor. I don't monitor them as often as I used to, though.

They do sometimes encrypt. Based on what I recall, sometimes one side will be encrypted while the other may or may not be. And sometimes the whole conversation will be encrypted. Probably just depends on the setting the radio was left on and the user apptitude/care. I've heard the same on FD as well as PD talk groups.

It's UHF 380MHz so you should have an antenna set for that range - if you are using an 800 MHz antenna it won't work so well.

What kind of scanner are you using.

I listen to CP Fire on both analog and digital, and PMO/PD on digital. The Brig is also very active.

I can hear the base in Garden Grove. You might try the various sites they use. If not that, it's probably a programming issue on your end. Have you done an ID search? pickup anything with that?

I was assuming that the PD\FD were on the 800mhz per the United States Department of Defense link? I have not heard anything on it. I am using the Akron Hill Site. Tried others but no luck also.
I see this link also. Are there any other freqs and settings listed?
Thanks...

See if you can pick up TGID 31112 (Base Brig). It is active right now.

I'm getting both Longrifle (31366) and PMO MP Tac 2 (31102) right now off of San Onofre and Akron Hill while sitting in Oceanside. Not sure if San Onofre is what I usually hear them on, but its what seems to be coming in clearly this evening. I'm going to try to edit the site names to get more readability out of it here in a minute-- the defaults are a little long winded...

Not 800 MHz - in the relatively new federal 380 MHz to 400 MHz LMR band. Many US military bases now use that band for trunking and some conventional systems.

800 MHz (and 700 MHz) systems are civilian at the core. They may have some TG's setup to be used for some Federal agencies when needed but that's a special case situation for interoperability and liaison reasons usually.

Not a lot of hobby scanner antennas made specifically for 380 MHz but most common hobby radio discones should work. Easy to make a 1/4 wave ground plane or half wave dipole or coaxial dipole also.

Maybe it was typo on your end but if you really are listening to 800 MHz for them you are definitely in the wrong part of the spectrum!

I am normally only in range of the Woodson site, which carries all FD dispatches, but only a few Command/Tac affiliated comms. Best bet for CP is to lock in to the primary base site which you would expect to carry all talkgroups, rather than locking on some smaller random site that might get inconsitent traffic due to lack of affiliationn on all talkgroups.

BTW, PMO Tac 1 is PMO "Dispatch".

I was only able to hear one something once. I have added all talkgroups. I'll try a different site to see if that makes any differance.

Hi,
Is it possible to monitor Camp Pendleton? Attempting to monitor FD\PD with no results. I am using a SDS200.
I am using this link as the info to monitor.
I am in North County.
Any information would be great.
Thanks...

I have them programmed in several radios, and listen to their fire traffic for crashes on I-5, or fires on base. I get the best signal off the Woodson site.

Does Pendleton get busy radio traffic?
I'm sooo really wanting to say something in the form of a rhetorical question involving the Pope and what religion he is a part of here....but...resiiiiissting...ohh...not easy...ooof...

sorry, but that was a serious question. Considering all the garbage going on with encryption it was something I needed to know.

From my house in Garden Grove the TG's are very busy during the day. At night much of it dies down. One weekend I listened and didn't hear much of anything. Give them a listen and determine if it is worth the time.

Thanks. Appreciate the info. North county has thinned out quite a bit with the encryption (Escondido, etc) so I continually have to juggle things around in my Sentinel. With Sheriff going soon the airwaves will really be quiet

Just a note here, and sorry if it's a repeat, but CPFD still dispatches on 149.775 with a 167.9 ctcss. I plug that one in on my conventional (non-trunked) scanner.

As far as the "E" word and San Diego LE agencies, here is an interesting article published Sunday in the SD Union Tribune.
