If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Monitoring a Motorola Capacity Plus Single Site system question

Hi, I'm relatively new to cap+ systems and monitoring them. I was gifted a Motorola xpr3500e with no programming on it but it does include the cap+ single and multi site capability. I was wondering if I could monitor a single site system on it, and if there is a chance that my radio could get blocked from monitoring it. Thanks for any help or clarification.

Yes. If the Cap+ system uses Restricted Access to System (RAS) and you don't know the RAS key, the radio will not unmute. There's also a very slim possibility that a system owner/administrator can send a kill command to inhibit your radio if they know your radio ID.

Do all mototrbo systems have RAS keys or is there a chance what I want to monitor doesn’t have one?

You can use DSD+ software to tell if a CAP+ system is using RAS, but it's hard to set up and I'm not sure if that feature might require the paid version. The paid version is also invaluable for figuring out the LCNs that you'll have to know. But you could at least try the free version.

As far as a kill command goes, just make sure to disable that in the radio codeplug and do everything you can to ensure the radio will not transmit.
