• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hey all... buddy at work asked me about scanner install on a new bike he was getting in April. Don't know make or model but told him I would do some research for him. I thought BC-15 with remote head ( need trunking but no digital ). Not sure on antennas...ground plane for a bike?, Mount ? Appreciate any suggestions or likes to pic of a bike install, could find any in search...uncharted territory here. Thanks in advance.

It would be helpful to know what kind of bike. Makes a difference in mounting on crotch rockets or cruisers.

bike

As stated he didn't tell me and I didn't ask what kind of bike. This things is new to me and I just wanted to start researching to see what can be done and how to do it. Been thinking about weather proofing..know bikes have radios made just for bikes but not scanners.

Sorry Bob, I guess I need to start re-reading things.

Depending on the bike, he could buy a scanner with a remote head. Store the guts in a saddle bag and mount the head up on the handle bars with a mount you can get on different websites that specialize in mounting equip.

Weather-proofing, throw a samich bag over it if its raining.

Being able to hear it, maybe headphones.

Antenna, I know plenty of bikes with CB's so there shouldnt be any problem locating antennas set ups.

Again, it depends on the bike, how loud it is etc....

I have been trying to figure out where to stash a scanner and CB on a sportster.

I am leaning toward building a radio box to replace the license plate holder.

a portable with an ear plug would probably work the best

Just make sure you are able to hear the traffic around you... I know riding a bike in sone states its illigeal to have headphones in because you may not hear a car behind you and swerve in front of them

Thanks

Great info. I don't know much about bikes, I'd never ride one. I like tons of steel around me. Anyway I let you know what happens.

Personally, I don't think farting around with a scanner while riding is a good idea. Anything that distracts your attention is a bad thing. But that is just my opinion.

I would suggest a hand held model, easy to take with you=harder to steal/deface. People are just stupid about motorcycles. It is not unheard of for a motorcyclist to find a soda/milkshake/chili cheese dog dumped on their bike for no good reason. Anyway, take a look at these helpful products.

They would all connect to a backpack, messenger bag or even a jacket. He could also put the radio in a tank bag. Probably will need to use headphones.

Thanks

I'll let him know. He's been riding for some time I think. I'll remind me of these issues.
