Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I recently picked up a Motorola systems 9000 radio and have a few questions.
I’m not a radio person, I’m a siren guy, this came with 2 control heads, HCN1071D and HCN1073D with a dek HLN1241C. I have the speaker and a wire Hkn4356B, and was told I need a radio and the Astro spectra siren amplifier. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction in regards to the radio, and what my cheapest option would be for one. I found a deal on a Motorola Astro T99DX+098W_ASTRO Two-Way Radio and am wondering if that would work? Sorry, but I am a complete noob, and am really in it for the siren.

those control heads and the systems 9000 siren unit were made in Tampa Florida.

if you see a white sticker on the back that starts with a K (Kbyte) or R (REPTRON) it might look like K25/98 which would be Kbyte week 25 of 1998. internally there are some stamps you might see, triangles one says ICT, and another says FCT I think my ICT stamp was T9 and at the moment I don't remember what my FCT stamp number was. at some point Reptron took over and they dropped the Kbyte name. if you search Tampa for Reptron Blvd., it still exists but the company Kimbal took over the factory.

I worked at that factory from 1995-2001 first in hand assembly, then later in Test Dept and finally in Functional test Troubleshoot/rework/repair.
I was laid off in 2001, and we endured layoffs every 3 months, they happened on Fridays. i heard they lost the motorola contract in 2003, around the time that the radios were discontinued

thousands of those control heads and sirens passed thru my hands. we also made Maratrac control heads and mobile extender units that fit in the same housing style as the siren unit, but it had a SO239 coax connector on the front. internally they had a Rnet 1 watt radio, which was basically a P10 or P50 radio.

I had no idea Motorola outsourced those Sirens and Extenders. I note that the schematic implies that a Securenet Encryption board can be fitted in those units. Is that for the Extender radio?

MOST motorola products are built in factories under contract. Sure, there are some that are directly corporate owned and operated manufacturing facilites, yes, but even then, many subassemblies in batches delivered from subcontractors.
For a time I worked for an electronics manufacturer in Melbourne, FL, that made a LOT of the flexible circuits found in many Motorola radios of the time period, including all the flex circuits found in Sabers.

If I remember correctly they had a version that had both the VRS-EP extender and the siren in the same housing.
I never saw such an animal go thru the factory. there was some prototype board that fit in the siren housing that i saw briefly, but those boards never made it to production and those boards didnt appear to have any RF on them. i suspected it was a prototype to replace the siren board considering the siren board was 1986 technology and heavy on the thru hole (hand assembly labor) the prototype had far more SMT on it
