• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have one in MINT shape with a touch tone face that used to be issued to the Dania FD chief that I had crystaled & retuned to a freq I still use. I won't even spend the $ to purchase a fresh battery for it, & I have lots of chargers. The radio works great, but I have so many other newer radios, it's not worth it. It too sits with my MX & other similar era radios that work great. I have 6 MINT Classic 810's that all talk to each other, but again, I won't spend the $ on batteries. Sometimes you just have to say it's not worth it. GARY N4KVE

As nice as an old, mint MT500 is, I too don't believe in spending any more money on them, and if I have one one I must have 25 of the things, many mint or near-mint. They're wideband, they're quirky at their age, they're a handful, and they cost an arm and a leg to recrystal. I even have lowband omnis from MDSHA that are absolutely mint on the inside and can be converted to 6M; I even put one of them on 50.525 (that's 50, not 52) that works great, but 6M simplex with low power is a waste of time, but it's still a gorgeous radio. Every so often I'll come across someone who wants one for display, or for his collection, and I'm glad to ship the radio out for nothing, but I know it's found a good home.

I enjoy learning and collecting vintage Motorola handie-talkie FM radios. Right not I have a VHF Hi 5 Channel with 5 selectable PL's in mint condition from a gas company and I love the engraving it has on the side and the bit of dirt on the edges it gives it the vintage look. Next I'm getting MX series and I have a minty MX360 with DTMF on its way to me
Although I wouldn't buy anything else or buy a battery its 40 a battery in some places, restoration labor cost is high if it needs work inside and then having to buy channel elements it could go into hundreds of $$
