• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

What all is sent over ARS packet data? Why do some of the units on the system I use have ARS enabled and others not? Is it required for OTAP? Can the sys admin even sed the radio alias be sent through ip packets? The codeplug?

How specific does Moto P25 ARS data get when it comes to the radio info?

  1. What is sent over ARS packet data? ARS packet data typically includes essential information about the radio unit, such as its identification, status, and possibly location. This data facilitates automatic registration and tracking of radio units within a system.
  2. Why do some units on the system have ARS enabled and others not? The decision to enable or disable ARS on specific units may depend on operational requirements or the specific needs of the radio system. Units that require constant tracking or management may have ARS enabled, while others may not need this functionality.
  3. Is ARS required for OTAP (Over-the-Air Programming)? ARS is not inherently required for OTAP. While ARS and OTAP can work together to enhance radio system capabilities, they serve different purposes. OTAP focuses on remote programming of radios, while ARS is more about tracking and managing the status of radio units.
  4. Can the sys admin send the radio alias through IP packets? The codeplug? The ability to send specific information like the radio alias or codeplug data through IP packets depends on the capabilities and configuration of the radio system. Some systems may support the transmission of additional data through IP packets, while others may not.
  5. How specific does Moto P25 ARS data get when it comes to radio info? Moto P25 ARS data typically includes critical information such as radio ID, status, and possibly location. The level of detail in Moto P25 ARS data can vary, and the specifics may be influenced by the implementation and configuration of the Moto P25 system in use.
