• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I noticed the sticky on this. It hasn't been updated in ages. I'm still going tell you the same thing, CPS *must* be obtained through Motorola Solutions.
BUT... some of it has moved to a zero cost distribution. What that means is that Motorola Solutions, and they alone, are legally distributing some of the software free of charge. I found out, fully expecting to pay $400 for the CPS for a new to me XPR3500e. I bought the radio knowing that. When I ordered the software through the Motorola Solutions website, it didn't charge me. I called them the next day and they told me that particular software had been moved to no cost distribution.
You still need an account with them to obtain it, and you still need to download it *from them*, do not pirate it!!

I ordered/bought the XPR CPS, a few months ago when I got a 7550e. I noticed on my software list that the APX software is listed for the current radios. I'm guessing its buy CPS, and you get all the current as long as your subscription remains valid.

APX CPS is now provided at no cost when an APX radio is purchased. That changed a few weeks ago.

As ve3ext mentioned, if the radio can be programmed via CPS 2.0 then it will work, depends on firmware. I have been using CPS 2.0 version 2.110.120.0 to program XPR6550 handhelds and XPR4550 mobile radios, both on firmware R01.12.17, for a while now. The only issues I have found, besides the learning curve from CPS16 and CPS 2.0 is that each 2.0 version has a hex issue. This may make aliasing a problem radio to radio where you may have to place the hex value in the decimal area and vice versa....and if connecting Trbo to Astro, Provisioning Manager may need to be the same. One release of 2.0 also would not let any radio have an ID that contained the letter "E".

I recently purchased 16 DLR 1060 HTs for the church I attend. The CPS was free, but the software connects to mother "M" when you use it. I haven't tried to find what it needs to connect for. It is not user friendly like the better RT Systems or Butel programs, but getting it at no additional cost was good for the budget.
