• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have just acquired a used XPR 3500. It came to me wiped of all contents, and with what I can only assume is the most basic feature set. I do also possess the correct version of CPS and a programming cable for the radio, and have done some exploring of its programming options. Now I have some questions:

- I am well aware that this radio can operate DMR conventional, which I have some experience with in the amateur radio spectrum. What about trunked systems? Is it a matter of getting features added to enable the functionality, and if so which features, and how much would that cost me?

- In that same vein, if the goal is to only monitor certain trunked systems, is there a concern over affiliation onto a network as is the case with a P25 system?

The ultimate goal here is to set the radio up for DMR ham use, however I'd like to be able to scan and monitor some local trunked systems as well. Thoughts?

More than likely you will need a entitlement key for trunking capabilities. If you click on the radio model in the tree, it will tell you what the radio has in it and what you can purchase.

Trbo radios can not just be programmed onto a trunk system without consultation with the owner. They have to program the ESN of the radio into the controller to allow access.

I don’t need to program my subscriber ESN To access my Cap+ system...

This is only true of a Tier III Cap Max system, ESN's are not used in other TRBO Topologies with the possible exception of Connect Plus.

However, if RAS is enabled you are not getting on the system and all systems ship with RAS as of a couple of releases ago.
