• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I don't use Harris extensively, so I just wondered, is the XL-200P P25 Phase 2 compliant out of the box, or is Phase 2 a licensed feature like it is on the XG-100 series?

I'll be using the radio principally in RX-only mode with a mission plan for the work I'll be doing, but I'd also like to have the ability to monitor one or two of the local trunked systems, primarily fire traffic. Just making sure the radio will support that without issue, and I'm familiar with the correct programming and setup methods of that kind of application. Ive heard elsewhere that the XL can be powered down? Obviously don't use UID 1, turn off anything data related, OTAR related etc. Turn off PTT in audio settings, but other than that are there any quirks to these or are they pretty straightforward?

No they don't come with Phase II by default.

Yes you can power it off with the power switch.

The line "Ive heard elsewhere that the XL can be powered down?" is meant to say inhibited I worded it horribly.

No, the XLs actually get killed and can't be recovered by writing a new plug from RPM in.

Which the should be. For a while a local sys admin here did not allow them on his/her network as there was some ambiguity over being able to recover an XL just by overwriting a new personality in it with RPM2. Once it was demonstrated as being bricked, with no hacker/whacker being able to recover it, minds were changed.

Right, obviously some people ruin it for others. If people were more careful and didn't just do it... But with that being said thank you

@AES-256-Encryption just my 2 cents, on conversations that I have had with my regional rep with L3 is that a lot of those security features was to be able to make the Harris line comparable to M. Obviously they are their own platforms as a whole but M really boasts that their radios are more secure if a radio was to go rouge and be inhibited. Now I won't say that that's 100% the reason the XL line is different from the older ones but it does make sense overall. Every meeting and training that I have been apart of L3 really is trying to be a strong competitor in the market since a lot of agencies especially one's that I maintain have dropped M for L3 and I think a lot of agencies are just realizing that L3 has better priced products that are just as good as M in a lot of ways. I know it's been a game changer locally for the agencies I maintain. Any how probably a little off topic and more of a opinion piece but just things I have gathered since repping L3.

XL subs can drop all crypto on inhibit, so they have the same security function as any MSI or JVC public safety product on the market.

Yes, I hate rouge radios, too. I much prefer teal or cyan. Rouge is just the WRONG color for a radio. They should not be ANY shade of red, unless it's the fire chief's radio.

Oh, did you mean ROGUE, not rouge? The difference is... not houge...but huge.
Dur, lol, good catch lol my bad!

Hahaha I did the same thing without paying attention too :ROFLMAO: OOPS

No way! He is definitely on something lol. L3 is doing really well in the public safety market. I mean yes M still dominates the market but a lot of agencies and states are going from M to L3. I was just in Lincoln 4 weeks ago and we placed our bid in for the update of the SRS which is 86 sites. M was the original installer in 2012 and they told the state the system will be EOL in 2028. But yeah he is nuts there is a lot of interest in L3 products.

And I concur with that statement but M sales reps really go to town on selling that their products have all these security features and that other lack or don't have them and that seems to be something I hear quite a bit. Can not tell you how many times I have heard from heads of agencies running M telling me that they were told L3 radios aren't compatible with they equipment LOL so someone's out there lying their ass off to make some sales haha
