To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, everyone!

I have run into an issue after upgrading the firmware on a Motorola XTL2500 from R08 to R20. After the firmware was upgraded, the radio has been stuck on the “Maintenance Mode: Remote Control”. The radio is a dash mount and I don’t know what happened.

What should I do?

AN or BN radio?
There is no an or bn in astro25 mobile radios.

As to the OP the radio is currently bricked. Its a common problem with the flashing process for astro25 gear vs apx.

Using serial cables you may be able to undo the bricking.

I was using a rear accessory cable, but that didn’t help it.

The issue was resolved. I used a regular speaker and ignition sense cable for the rear as programmed, and use the car’s power to keep it up. I still used the front accessory port cable. It is successfully upgraded and functional now.

W series is not supported on xtl2500 radios. Unless it was flashed as a 5000 mobile.
I know that and that is beside the point I was going to offer up on how to unbrick the radio if the radio is not communicating with the controlhead. I know how to unbrick a XTL radio if you get the FL 1/90 error. It has everything to do with the "W" Series controlhead.

I personally like the W series control head as well and use them for almost all my stuff because of the optional siren controller and extended DEK.
