• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I activated MPL on my menu list but when I program the radio it doesn’t show MPL in my list. I have it set to dynamic after static didn’t show it. I have MPL’s created and in my zone assignment I have channels selected for MPL and when I go to those channels in my zones it doesn’t show on my soft keys. Where I put the soft key it is just showing blank and when I click on where I put the soft key it just does the lovely Moto XTS beep. I do have FPP enabled and I can’t find FPP in my menu selection in CPS.

If anyone has any info that would be great.

Thanks in advance,
New Moto Radio Operator

I don’t believe you can use MPL with FPP. It would need to be in a zone with no FPP enabled.

Did you check the MPL box on the channel you're trying it on?
Yes, I have checked the channel in the zone assignment, I have put the menu setting on a soft key. I don’t know what else I am missing

I put the MPL on my soft key but it doesn't show up on my screen above a soft key. I am not sure if there is something I am missing within the conventional config for MPL.

Confirming, in the "Zone/Channel Assignment Menu, you have the "User Selectable PL (MPL)" box checked for the channel you want to use the MPL feature, and you are you selecting the MPL feature in the "Menu Items" list from the available items in the left column and adding it to the list in the Selected Items in the right column, under the "Display and Menu" tab?

If so, and if it is not showing in the display, depending on the number of menu items you have selected in the list, you will need to scroll to that feature with the scroll button, left or right arrow, and once you have the MPL in the display, you depress the soft key under the "MPL", and immediately scroll left or right when your PL selection is displayed, and immediately press the "SEL" button. You should be good to go.

So, I have done all of that but when I write to the radio it doesn't show it in my soft key menu items on the radio. Where I place the MPL item in my menu for the radio screen it doesn't show it but it does show a space with nothing in it on my radio screen where the MPL should be.

Not in the FPP mode. However, if you have a preset channel in the "FPP Enabled Zone" or in the Zone/Channel Assignment that is not FPP Enabled, and If that preset channel in any Zone/Channel Assignment Zone is selected for User Selectable PL it you will be able to use the MPL feature, it doesn't make any difference if the Zone is FPP Enabled or not.

Did you scroll left or right through the menu?

If you send me your .cpg file, I'll be more than happy to take a look. Email it directly to nokones@kenmitchell.com

Ever seen a model II XTS5000 with FPP?
I have one. It requires you to scroll through frequencies as there's no direct entry keypad, but it still works.

It's SLOW to move frequencies more than a half a MHz.

LOL I only realized that now on my model 3 FPP keypad as I always utilized keypad input, but yes indeed the arrows navigation button that is shared with the model 2 will control the change of frequency a little bit at a time. Its only slightly less of a pain easier changing the bandwidth to 25 and scrolling

Just as much as doing it on an APX7500 with an O5 control head.
