• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have two XTS2500s, both showing AES-256 when placed in Service Mode. I successfully loaded AES keys onto one radio with a KFDShield, but I cannot load keys onto the other. I opened up the housing for the second radio to do a cursory inspection, but I didn’t see anything obviously wrong. Radio still functions as expected after reassembly.

1. Both radios contain Multikey in their flash codes.
2. Both radios have hardware encryption checked under Secure in CPS.
3. Both radios have the same number of CKRs in CPS.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Does the radio show KEYLOAD at all? If not, it might be a problem with the contacts on the side. Ensure they are clean and undamaged

I swapped housings, keypads, and LCDs between two XTS2500s, and now both keyload successfully. If I had to venture a guess as to the root cause, it could have been a ribbon cable not being fully inserted somewhere. There is no evident hardware failure in either radio.

The worst design of integrating a UCM into a front cover that is subjected to constant physical stress of the operator and environment goes to Motorola. The XTS2500 was a cost cutter radio and this is where it shows.

Are both CKR and PID Key Management checked in MultiKey Option tabs?

It has always been my thought that they never designed the radio for usage as a primary public safety radio that needed any encryption higher than software ADP. Seems the small size got popular over the 5000 and they had to figure out a way to retrofit it and that's what they came up with. The whole design of the radios internals screams general government/public works tier radio. If I had a dollar for every time I had to reflow an antenna connector, well I wouldn't have to reflow antenna connectors anymore
