• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Cause of some of the restrictions imposed in the forum , I will try to elaborate without mentioning software names.
You need 2 main software and 1 optional for a total of 3. You will also need the proper 2.9 firmware files.
So it goes like this: First. Use the tool to save the RX/TX alignment settings of the radio. (because when you write back the firmware you loose the alignment settings, and without them the radio is useless), Second: Put the radio into bootloader mode. example: In the XPS mobile family for example, all you need to do is jump pins 16,17 and 23 together (rear connector), apply DC and the radio will go into bootloader mode, remove the jumper connect the programming cable while on. Third, you then write the firmware into the radio using the other tool. Once it reboots, you use the same tool you used to save the alignments, you just load the alignments back. (make sure you do not interrupt the process, once complete, you close down the tool, and it will reset the radio automatically). DONE. You can open using CPS16. The optional tool is the one that forces the radio in bootloader mode, incase the jumpers do not work. The tool is a command prompt utility. You need to connect the radio to the computer, and get the IP address of the radio(network settings). However, you do not use the IP address of the radio, but the GATEWAY address. You run the utility and add the IP address of the gateway at the prompt, and it will put the radio in Bootloader mode. (needed for portable units firmware restorations). Then proceed with the second step mention above till done.

So people can't do it without possession of tools that shouldn't exist outside of Mototola...got it
But an authorized dealer can. I have seen many out there claiming to be, and you bring the radio to the shop, and the answer you get is that it can't be done... Kind of makes you wonder who you are dealing with....

Authorized MSS will not and should not. Anyone who is doing it outside on their own... That is hammy level stuff that they might do as a favor..

Well then...that explains the issues with some of these dealers, & end users; are not allowed to use the tools, so I guess everyone is on their own when stuff updates.
