To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi there,

I have an XPR 5550 which I intend to purchase some entitlement keys for. The radio is currently programmed with CPS 16 and I'd like to keep it that way. I know Motorola no longer allows entitlement keys to be activated using CPS 16 and only CPS 2, which brings up a question I have that I'd like to ask before I try it and potentially do something irreversible.

If I were to read the radio in CPS 2 and activate the EIDs for it using CPS 2, would I still be able to program it in CPS 16 or does that trigger an upgrade to where I'd have to use CPS 2 only to program the radio going forward?

Thanks in advance for your input and experience.

So just to confirm, I should be able to use CPS 2 to activate the EIDs and, as long as I don’t write to the radio with CPS 2, I should still be able to use CPS 16 to program the radio. Is that accurate?

No... You have to upgrade to 2.0 your radio is probably running old firmware and CPS2.0 wont even recognize it You will have to upgrade.. end of story the CPS16 era is over the only ones still clinging on to it are the hobbyists

I was able to add EID's to my 7550E which is on CPS 16. I used CPS 2.0??? can't remember added the EID. My radio is still using CPS 16 for programming. I guess it really depends on what EID you wish to add if old firmware 2.09 will support the EID you should be fine.

You can add an entitlement with CPS2 and still use CPS16. I guess since it doesn't "write"?

I added RX audio leveling to a 7550e running 2.09 using CPS2.
