• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Long shot since I've looked everywhere, but does Motorola (or any manufacturer for that matter) make a USB or serial interface cable for the rear accessory port of an XPR5550e? I'm looking to set one up as a control station which means I need a USB connection and the ability to pass audio back and forth as well as PTT / channel steering commands. Everywhere I turn seems to suggest having to make one from scratch.

Any ideas or something I'm missing? I find it hard to believe that everyone with a control station is making their own cables, but maybe I'm too naive.

I have that cable. It does not pass audio as it is only wired for the serial pinout.

Every new XPR 4550/5550 comes with the rear connector, & pins in the box. That, a printer cable, & 10 minutes gives you what you want. If I can do it, anybody can.

I will try DIY'ing with that. I've done it before for a crosspatch cable. Just wanted to see if anyone made one pre-built.

Not sure if either of these firms will sell you just a cable -- But check out these possible sources.

And also check out this one --

Every manufacturer of consoles or third party interfaces is making cables for their customers. The customers typically don't take the time to make the cables. Depending on your application though what you need varies. The USB interface is a convent place to start but keep in mind an XPR 4000/5000 can be channel steered via API or via BCD and COR/PTT can be provided via pins on the accessory interface or via API. It really just depends on how the radio is being interfaced to the console/equipment.

In all cases though, you need to run TX and RX audio to your interface as the radio does not put that through via USB.
