I got a puzzler here. I have 3 industries in my town programmed into my TRX-2. They are all Mototrbo systems. My first 2 come through very clear, both single channel systems, 4-5 bars of signal strength.

I have 1 industry on 5 channels, not a trunked system, good signal strengths, 4-5 bars but every time I hear a transmission, it sounds like harsh "whispering" or someone gasping for air. Am I missing a step somewhere? Any ideas???

The power of inversion! Just ask Roger Teeter 😂

Just wondering, what is this this that you're listening to that's encrypted?

Back in the day I bought a gadget to cope with voice inversion...I wonder if it would work in this instance?

Voice inversion on DMR=negative unless they managed to buy some vocoder option board that is compatible with their radios.
Encrypted DMR (called enhanced privacy on Motorola radios) on a scanner or decoder sounds like broken scrambled audio. You'll hear garbage with occasional muting and every once in awhile will sound like a blurb of speech inversion. The scanner will not show encrypted.

Each brand of radio has their own way of doing "encryption". My Moto 7550's sound like what I said above. My Baofeng DM-1701's sound like the unintelligible speaking portion of the Tasmanian Devil with no muting or any thought of intelligibility. The Motos use an 8-digit hex code. The BF uses a 32-digit hex code. So I'm sure neither will talk to each other when encrypted.

It seems like our out of luck.

Post a recording here for the audio and we'll be able to better advise. Even better if you use the duscriminator i/f option on the trx to record raw audio. If it's moto basic privacy its relatively easy to recover.

That description of the audio pretty much sums up what is being heard. I could not get a audio clip loaded into my laptop and post for review as I just purchased this TRX-2 and still learning on how it works. I will post the audio once I get that part figured out!

Far cry from my Pro106, besides the Object Oriented Scanning.

I've never heard of voice invesrion (an analog scambling method) used on DMR. RAS wont affect the audio, and not in the way you describe. Basic Privacy or Enhanced Privacy are most common. From what's been described BP is most likely. The raw audio will reveal more.
