What I was thinking about was that they will have a TRBO system out in 700/800 public safety in something like 2011. So maybe by then they will get a scanner out by then.

A local FD (countywide) was sold a TRBO system (using their existing VHF repeaters) and at least the fire chief, if not others, were led to believe it would be compatible with P25 systems. Obviously not so.

The fire/EMS trade magazines still have ads from a local radio shop touting XPR (TRBO) radios as designed for emergency services use, and perfect for future expandability and operations - when the province is committed to a province-wide 700MHz P25 trunk for emergency responders, starting right away.

I don't mean to be all anti-MotoTRBO, but I'm just seeing a proprietary gimmicky system that has no real benefit. Someone go ahead and prove me wrong. What do I gain over my conventional repeaters & simplex channels, or my 800MHz analog trunk, or, the upcoming 700MHz P25 trunk, by hopping on the MotoTRBO bandwagon?

Well trbo can't be monitor by anything but another trbo radio programmed to that system. NO scanners yet but who knows down the road. If you ahve only one freq you can sort of double you channels with trbo. It is not P25. You get things like GPS date, texting, private call, and goup calls. Stuff like that. Those are just a few of the things you get. and I'm not saying it is better then anything. You would have to look at your needs and wants to see if it is better for you then something else. Hope that helps some

The road to no where.
Jay,

Can't argue with that.

TDMA is the future of this stuff.

Even Motorola P25 systems are going TDMA.

That being said, right now it seems to ME that TRBO is a nice private system. You can buy 2 repeaters and get 4 channels of use. Its nice for commercial applications.

However, minus the GPS all those other options that have been listed come with P25 systems as well.

List of Ham TRBO Repeaters?

We certainly would like to be able to listen in on the IPSC backhaul for activity and overall system security.

Anyone know of a list of Ham TRBO repeaters in the USA? We currently operate 6 repeaters in 3 states via IPSC. Thanks...Mike

Lots more cool applications are coming down the pike.
