    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello everyone,

I am an E&I engineer at work, so anything electrical tends to fall towards me. There is an employee that has a Motorola HT750 and he is having problems with the range with his walkie, as it doesn't transmit as far as it once had. Secondly, channels 1 and 2 appear to be working as if they were the same channel. How would I go about fixing these issues? I hope I have provided enough information and am grateful for any potential help.

Not a lot you can do without some test equipment and the programing software. Examine the antenna and connector for damage. It could be a failed transmitter or bad antenna. Is this a simplex or repeater system? Here is a wild guess if it is a repeater system is one channel the repeater and one channel talk around? Can you hear on both channels ok but have reduced range on the other? You may be on talk around (for close operation) but need to be on the repeater for longer distance.

Could also be a wrong or damaged antenna. The antenna connector in the radio breaks away from the circuit board usually due to the antenna being used as a radio carrying handle. A known problem.
