US Forest Service and Virginia Division of Forestry were on scene. As of lunchtime today (2016-11-22), fire had grown to 2,700 acres, and was 0% controlled. Fire is located on private land, and in the Mount Pleasant National Scenic Area of the George Washington National Forest in Amherst County.
Comms were monitored on the STARS system “RED3” (TGID 3035) which was being referred as ‘C3’, and on conventional frequency DoF-1 (151.47500 MHz) simplex. No USFS comms have been monitored yet.

A Helitack base has been set-up on US Highway 60 at the Forks of Buffalo, across the road from the VDoT office. Saw two different helos doing water drops. A yellow Bell 205 and support crew from Helicopter Express (Chamblee, GA) was refueling at the base. A second helo see was a white painted Chinook, see making water drops over the fireline.

Helicopter Express is licensed for a pair of Itinerant Frequencies: 151.505 and 151.625 (WQLU207), but I did not hear any comms while in the area.

Hey kb4cvn,

Thanks for the link to our magazine article! I'm the publisher of BRLM. Quick question, do you know what the freqs for the GW & Jefferson units are. The normal ones? I used to have them in an old scanner and both it and the computer died eventually before I got them copied for the new one.

Haven't been able to locate them online or here in RR.

They went to a new system not too terribly long ago, maybe 2-3 years. and I remember it was 170's mhz

I have BRP Police ops but not GW.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Tommy

Do you have the PL's or NAC for these frequencies?

168.6500 is using 110.9 Hz.

167.5250 is in use, referred to as AIR TAC

Heard aircraft in 168.65 clear up here in Fredericksburg talking to Roanoke using the above PL. They called that channel "National".
