I also remember the movie "Where The Boys Are" (1960) where Frank Gorshin carried a handheld transistor radio capable of monitoring the local police.

Not necessarily about monitoring, but I watched "Jason Bourne" yesterday, and in a chase scene, Bourne's assassin steals a SWAT vehicle and when they pan to the center console to "listen" to the police radio, they focus in on the Federal PA300 siren. FAIL.

Just watched Casino again yesterday. There is a scene where Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci) is going over his precautions from law enforcement and it shows a setup including several crystal style police scanners.

Someone mentioned "The Manhattan Project" earlier. That movie resonated for me because in one of the early establishing shots of the kid's bedroom, there's a pan past a bookshelf on which is revealed a copy of the book I wrote in 1984 for Scanner Master. MONITOR AMERICA. We received no product placement fees for this!

Wouldn't you be the one paying product placement fees?

Back when I worked at Motorola, we had some new, smaller versions of their famous microphones. Same styling, just smaller for the cheaper radios. Anyway I got a request from the Dept. VP Chris "G", to get a couple from stock for a new movie, Called "Airplane". They were used in the famous Cockpit scene.

The traditional payment arrangement is for the movie producers to be paid for advertising the product by including it in the movie. They aren't going to pay you to advertise your product.

The movie 1995 movie Heat, De Niro/PAcino, opening scene when they rob an armored car, Danny Trejo is working the scanners in the get away car. It was one of the only times I thought a movie actually did a decent job. I think one of them was a Bearcat 890XLT or some such.

I remember watching a movie not too long ago. It was released in November of 2013 with cast of upcoming stars but really never won any kind of awards. Some critics didn't know what category this short film should be under. Some thought comedy, drama, reality or documentary.
It was actually about some people that were fascinated by scanners. If I remember right , there was Joe, Bob,Mable, Billy Ray and Jeff . The opening scene was highlight of the show and full of action. But then all the sudden the tempo of the movie changed. This guy comes out and starts talking about this futuristic scanner that can do cool things and man I was at the edge of my seat. Then all the sudden they cut to a scene where this guy loves watching Cops and people running in their underwear. I didn't know if I should laugh or cover the children's eyes.
I wonder whatever became of that movie and if there will be a sequel ?

I heard that Jeff, suffering disappointment that his Siren APP would not work across town at a drug buy, found himself in a world of hurt, arrested, 180 days in jail, spent the last three years in rehab. His probation has him banned from anything electronic. Last seen building barns on that Amish Mafia reality show.

Some things are worth repeating !

And still a great scene, regardless of the scanners! And great movie. I keep meaning to find other Michael Mann movies to watch I haven't seen yet. Love the tone and feel of his movies.

'70's chase movie, can't remember the name.

I remember an old movie fromm the '70's I think. Damned if I can remember the name. Basics of the story was that a couple of bad guys robbed a bank or something and had a Police radio in their car. They had mapped out an orange grove or something like that, a grid type road setup. So when the Cops started chasing them and setting up roadblocks, the bad guys would consult thier map and make a course correction. As the movie progresses, the main chase cop figures out what is going on and starts giving false info over the air, well the bad guys start changing directions, but then figure out they are being scammed. The last scene is of the bad guys laughing and thinking that they are going to get away, turn to cross a level crossing and get blasted by the train they didn't see. Would love to see it again... If I could remember the name... old age sucks.. Anyway, back on topic, I Know there were several radio shots in the movie. Want to see it again to try and ID the radios.

P. S., Holy Crap, I can sign in from work again!!, that's why I haven't posted for so long....
