I am looking to move my feed from my current Windows 10 home PC. I'm considering Linux Mint and using Icecast as a replacement. For those who are on Linux, what are you using and how much different is it to set up than Win10 and Scannercast. WIndows 10 life is ending soon and the latest shut down my feed PC around midnight. This is the third time this has happened even though I delayed automatic updates. The updates also revert my registry tweaks to stop the updates. I'm fed up with m$$$$$.

Further specs on my system are RS Pro197 using audio cable to the PC. Motherboard is Asus Prime B450M-A CSM(corporate stable model), AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Six core, 16GB RAM, NV 9500GT Video card, Samsung Evo 860 Pro 512 GB Drive. Onboard audio is Realtek ALC 887-VD-2 8-channel HD audio.

I believe my hardware is more than adequate to run Linux Mint. I do know about Mint enough to install it and get the latest updates but not sure what has to be done to setup my feed on Mint.

Linux has a learning curve, but would be more suitable.

Winblows 10 et al can be managed by blocking the updates at the domain name level using such things as NextDNS or Pi Hole with a Cloudflare upstream DNS with Cloudflare Teams.

The third option in that above article about the Windows Update Blocker would probably work better. Just turning off the update service may not work because the windows update medic service will ENSURE you get those outstanding BS updates. There's a reason why it was done like this and it's not for your protection either... In fact, a lot of the BS components of Windows are now built into the core for reasons... Windows fan boy I am not, but I use it with AtlasOS because remembering a whole bank of terminal commands in Linux is a PITA.

You CAN run Windows 7, you will NOT get magically hacked or acquire malware just running a stream. I run Windows 7 24/7 on two computers now. And guess what? There are more CVEs (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) in Windows 10 since conception than Windows 7.

The systematic menticide by others all over the Internet suggesting you MUST use the "latest and greatest" is a fallacy. It's nothing but social influence/social convention like a lot of other things...

You might want to check out a Raspberry Pi computer and use SDRTrunk.
