To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Your MTSX.bat file should looks something like this:

C:/
cd mrss
cd mtsx
mtsx

The above is true only if your MTSX file resides is C:/MRSS/MTSX

Mike,

Thanks for the DOS help, I can read the MTSX now and will let you know how the MT2000 accepts the programming... While this is all new to me I am amazed the HT1000 have worked so well and I have struggled with the MT2000.... I hope the MTS2000 is not more difficult yet.... Thanks again and I will let you know Monday or Tuesday as I am "on the road" this weekend returning on Monday, Thanks again

If I'm reading your messages correctly, the MT2000's have already been previously programmed using MTSX V R06.08.00.

Now you're trying to program them with MTSX V R06.07.00?

Using an older version of MTSX software than the radios were previously programmed with will not work. If those MT2000's have already been programmed with R06.08.00 then that's what you need to use for programming them forever after.

I have a fix for this problem. It may have been brought up here before but i just figured it out. My buddy sent his mt2000 out to the shop for repair, when it came back it was programed with the latest software which we did not have, nor could we change anything now. So what i did was read my older version mt2000 then cloned it into his mt2000. Now i changed the software version back to the older version in his radio and was abel to program it fine. So what what im saying even though it had the latest version of the software i was abel to bring it back to a earlier version and the radio worked fine.

You'll need a Windows 95 / 98 machine to use the MTSX RSS. Running the RSS in pure DOS mode would be the safest way. It's a known fact that the RSS does not run on Windows 2000 / XP / Vista

I got it to work on XP but i still cant figure out how to make a DOS boot disk so i can just use my laptop to do all my programing and stuff... as i was told if i didnt run it off pure DOS while programming can fry my radio.

I have an old windows 95 and DOS machine which works fine for my HT1000's and I finally got the old Sony to read the MTSX software, but now when it reads my MT2000's I get a can not read check digit error on the MTSX screen. Maybe I have an older MTSX and need to get a newer revision as these MT2000's were last programmed by someone else. This is my first attempt at MT2000's, the HT1000's have been programming fine with the same machine and separate HT1000 RSS software, not the MTSX software I am using for the MT2000's.

Do y'all think this would work: If you have an older RSS, get a codeplug for your model MT2000 that would load into your RSS. Then, upload the older codeplug to your radio.

Would that overwrite the new codeplug, making your radio able to be read and programmed with older RSS, or would it (shudder) brick the radio?

I'm curious, since i've got an MT2000 coming, and the fella who does my programming for me only has an older version of the MT2000 RSS....

unfortunately MTS2000 CPS will only program MTS2000 radios, it will NOT work with MT2000, MTX, or other Jedi. So you'll have to get the newer version of MTSX RSS to program that MT2K.

MTS2000 CPS is for MTS2000's only. It won't read/write an MT2000, it may try but it will just error out and say not supported. (yes I've tried it)

Lieut25, please check your PMs - I had an offlist question about the cloning process.

Thanks,

Mt2000

I have a MT2000 and just need a few freq's added in.

Is there a place where I can send the radio to get programmed without buying all the stuff to do it?

Thanks

The programming cable is cheap on ebay... I am sure quite a few folks here will be able to help you for a fee. You might try on your local Craig's List first to see if you could find someone local so you don't have to ship it.

Still no luck trying to get my motorola programmed here in Southern Ontario

Didn't think this would be so difficult......

Hang in there. I'm sure you'll find some solution soon.

(just want to encourage you, unfortunately we can't offer to help in ways that would be useful without breaking the rules...)
