If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all,

I recently purchased some surplus MTS2000 radios to use around the job site. They seem to work great, however I am having a problem getting a headset to work correctly.

I purchased one of these:
Wire Ear Mic Heavy Duty Large PTT for Motorola HT1000 - eBay (item 390067401828 end time Aug-09-09 17:18:43 PDT)

And one of these:
Adapter for moto HT1000 MTS2000 MTX838 8-006 - eBay (item 250458999772 end time Aug-04-09 15:46:35 PDT)

It does not seem to work. I am not able to transmit or receive using the headset. Is there something special that needs to be done to the radio to allow the use of a headset?

Any help, or if I could be pointed in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. I have scoured the internet looking for a solution without any success.

Thanks!

Sounds like a faulty part from ebay. If you only bought one adapter it sounds as if this is the culprit, especially if you've tried this setup on all radios. There is nothing you need to do aside from attaching it to the radio as they are plug and play. When you attach an accessory like this to the radio's side connector, logic circuitry tells the radio that you have external mic and PTT. Your radio(s) do not "see" this adapter being attached.

Thanks, I bought a real motorola 3.5mm adapter and now the headset works fine.

On a side note, one of the MTS2000's just emits an audible tone whenever you press the the PTT (with or without the headset/adapter). It makes the same tone as the small top button above the PTT. Is this radio broken?

Sounds like a rx only channel? If it is programmed for tx, then maybe it has an "out of lock" condition? Frequency may be out of the range?

DPapay, the radios came in a lot, with all of them with the same preprogrammed channels. The other radios can Tx fine on those channels. This radio just emits that tone, regardless of what channel it is on, whenever the PTT is pressed.

I will send out to get repaired if it's worth it. If I replace the radio, I would have to get programmed to match the other radios which sounds like it would be a chore.
