MTS2000 programming zones

I need to know how to name a zone. Also when I program 2 zones, only one is written to the radio for zone one and it is labeled zone 2. I am using CPS software.

It's been a while as I remember it, you have 14 characters to split between the names of the zones and the names of the channels.
So, you can allocate three characters to the zone, and 11 to the channels. Or you can allocate one to the zone names and 13 for channel names. Any combination, but it's universal for everything in the radio. If you pick 2 characters (for example) as the zone name length, then ALL zones will have only 2 characters available for zone names, and 12 characters will be available for all channels.
Once you've got that in hand, see if you're having other problems and if so, we'll look at it.

Sounds like an issue with Zone Channel Assignment. As Elroy said, make sure you have at least 2 characters designated for Zone Name ( ie - Z1,Z2, etc. ) if you have more than 9 zones I’d have 3 dedicated for it.

For me personally - how I have all my model 3 MTS radios setup - I skip the Zone Name so I have the full 14 characters for the Channel Names.

That will depend on which Model/Type MTS2000 you have in order to select either 6 or 14 combined characters to choose with both the Zone and Channel names and how you have the Display & Menu settings set for the "Channel Text and Zone Text Sizes". With Model/Type 1 radios with a top display you only have a combined total of 6 characters and with Model/Type 2 and 3 radios that have a front panel display you get the total of 14 charactors.

You need to check and see how you have the settings set for in the "Display and Menu" settings in the CPS. You need to have some value set for the "Zone Text Size" setting. Then in the "Zone Channel Assignment" menu, click on the "Zone Channel Assignment - 1, 2, or 3", click the "Zone" tab, than in the "Zone" box, type what how you want to ID that Zone (up to the max setting for the character text size).

Thank you for your response. I think you are talking about RSS software. I am using CPS software and just not understanding. I am not even able to name a zone.

Can you please help with scan? I made a list but I cannot get it assigned to a button or switch. When I select one, it will not allow the radio to be written.

It sounds like that you did not assign the specific scan list to the respective personality and or programmed a feature button or switch to enable/disable the scan feature.

Also, I don't believe that Motorola had an RSS application for the MTS2000 because of programming the radio's trunking features for that series of radios.

The Programming Software for the MTS2000 was originally RSS. Then CPS came out for it at a later date. Once a radio is written with CPS it cannot be read / wrote with RSS. Same with the Astro Saber ( and probably a few other series of radios I’m missing. I know the bastard stepchild the XTS3500 ONLY had RSS and CPS was never developed for it, which is very interesting )
